    Pros

Great hours, friendly people, excellent systemic structure.

    Cons

Prehistoric structure for support staff. They employ people with no skills to control support staff that do have a superior skill-set. Prehistoric hierarchical structure, meaning there are "lead" secretaries who try to boss other secretaries and utilize bullying tactics.

    Advice to Management

Not all support staff is of the non-intellectual mindset

    Pros

easy way to make money, the interface of how to get jobs is simple, the hr department is very helpful

    Cons

getting the jobs on the website is easy but getting a lot of work is not if you don't make connections with teachers and quickly, don't get on the teachers bad side at any school because it will follow you. it takes a really long time to get on the registry for substitute teaching and its very unnecessary

    Advice to Management

speed up the substitute teacher intake

    Cons

DATA DATA DATA with no purpose, but just to follow trends
administrative bullying can be a problem for new teachers by some principals

    Advice to Management

    Pros

    Nice upper management

Winter and Spring Breaks (don't have to use vacation days for the holidays!)

Feel like you're giving back because of helping students.

    Cons

Occasionally coworkers will expect you to do work outside of your duty if they don't fee like making copies or other clerical type work.

    Pros

Good hours for a family, rewarding work helping students, dedicated school staff, easy access to major highways, metro, fair salary and limited health benefits. Options for retirement plans and other retirement programs

    Cons

Confusing direction for the last several years. More emphasis on testing and less on learning, too many consultants and programs which detract from learning, large staff turn over and retention. A diverse student population with wide extremes in basic skills. Limited choices in health plans
Central top heavy with bureaucrats who have little experience working with the current types of students.

    Advice to Management

Get back to helping students with basic skills and meeting the needs of the students and not some bureaucratic agenda to justify their job. Central office personnel should be reduced and more personnel added to the schools. Those who are in the Central office should work in the schools each week for at least one class period to have a better understanding of issues and needs.

    Pros

The supervisor was willing to work with you while allowing you to study while on down time

    Cons

A lot of down time, our purpose was to asset the students, setting up the laptops for testing then authenticate their access to the server when they got disconnected, yet some of the locations didn't allow up to do our job, and just loaned out laptops and sit back and collect them when finished.

    Pros

The school system is located just outside of Washington, DC and is very diverse. That being said, awesome administrators within a school system are necessary. Some of the schools have fantastic administrators, and others simply do not. They do provide many opportunities for professional development as a teacher, and you get 4 personal and 11 sick days. Staff were able to complete surveys about administrators and school building climate this year. Teachers receive the highest pay in the area.

    Cons

The administrators and people at central office can seem disconnected from what is actually happening in the schools. Student test scores and test preparation can come before consideration for teacher planning time. Benefits are expensive.
