I have been working at Alexza Pharmaceuticals
Pros – Location is nice if you don't mind the traffic and rude partons when a concert is being performed just down the road.
There are some really hard working folks there who really want to see and help facilitate the product success and who can be a joy to work with.
Cons – -morale of employees is extremely low.
-most of upper management is not interested in taking the time to fix things correctly and like the 'bandaid' approach.
-HR is definitely not looking out for the employees' best interest and are not a resource to go to with employment issues.
-environment is too stressed and physically too compact for any 'elbow room' or privacy when needed.
-organization of departments needs a lot of review and work.
-ratio of management to non-management is unrealistically way off balance.
-most departments don't take ownership of issues and etc.
-communication between departments is almost non-existant
Advice to Senior Management – Ask your people how they're doing. Listen to what they have to say. Show some effort in trying to understand the general impression of how your people feel about their jobs. Back up your people when they ask for help. Assist in trying to find answers to problems instead of trying to find the best person to point a finger at. Acknowledge the hard work of ALL the departments including the ones who are mostly just 'support' for the others.
More transparency, specifically and in general, would help with everything.
Review your golden parachute agreements.

I worked at Alexza Pharmaceuticals
Pros – The work they did was of a huge value to society and our community.
Cons – Most managers seem to be supporting their bosses, and not their reports.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay attention to those with high work ethic; stop criticizing people who are perceived as "working too hard". Most likely they are making up for the workers who are not.
