Pros
Being able to work directly with the public.
Cons
They Downsized. Closed all the Indiana and Michigan branches and put a lot of families in bad situations.
Advice to Senior Management
I really loved working for this company but to do what was done to all of us in Indiana,Michigan and to the transport drivers who delivered to our area I feel was un excusable.I talked to quite a few people who were around during previous administrations. Everyone of them would say back in the day you wouldn't have seen what you see today. The previous generations of leadership would not approve of the way things are today. The Elkhart branch was in business 55 + years . I know times are tough, but looking at a map.It is farther to go to Cleveland than to Elkhart from Lima, which is where the majority of our trucks came from. I'm sorry but I would not want to be in your shoes when someday you will meet your previous generations and you explain to them how you destroyed what they built. You should have continued your Great Great Grandfathers dream. He started this company not you. You should have started your own company if that was your dream. My advise is to go back and see what the founders of this companies dream was.
Pros
It's mostly easy work (for most employees) as long as you're there every day and follow their rules (if they let you know them all) you can have it pretty good
Cons
The company changes direction without letting the employees know about it, and the union does nothing but take our money every month
Advice to Senior Management
This could be a great place to work if the company realized the employees are people that have lives outside the bakery as well as busting their humps for you. Performance raises would help a lot.
Pros
Nickles has given me the opportunity to pay may bills, support my family, put food on the table. Over all a pretty fair employer
Cons
Long hours, some times I think things are not lloking up like they did in the past. Not as much effort is put into the everyday operations.
Advice to Senior Management
More attention to the small details that made the company a place I was proud to work for for years
Pros
benefits is the reason why i am still at alfred nickles bakery my family and to be an independent woman
Cons
the favortism noone really wants to talk to you unless you messed some product up or if your attendance is not up to their standards
Advice to Senior Management
try giving more of the employees a opportunity to become part of the leadership team. moreblack employees want the chance to become an foreman
Pros
The mechanic and drivers are very nice.
Cons
No future! No benefits for part time employees! Not enough hours! The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer! :(
Advice to Senior Management
Have semi-annual employee reviews, and regular raises. Offer insurance at a low rate to part-time employees
Pros
great benefits, good pay, products are good and priced right so they are an easy sell. resturant pricing is the best managment will help get knew accounts
Cons
the union makes it hard for the hard working less seniority people to not get layed off in slow times, and they keep the higher seniority less caring go through the motion guys working all year
Advice to Senior Management
push for the removal of the union, it would be better for the company and the employees. it would help drop the wall between management and salesman
