    Pros

Niche player in high-end IT services... so we get to work with really talented people... best I've worked with in a decade.

    Cons

Working at a Service Provider can mean some harsh clients and long hours.

    Pros

    Great opportunity to gain experience

    Cons

Align has a talent when it comes to recruiting smart individuals. Sadly, a career at this firm is short lived after you have realized what was advertised is all a sham. False hope allows the firm to recruit talented individuals to jump onboard for average to low pay. High turnovers have employed four full-time recruiters for a company with less than 100 headcount in the New York office. CEO finds cycle highly profitable due to the saturated number of unemployed engineers in the market. Low pay, bill top rates, returns huge profits, how does one argue with this strategy. If employee disrupts the cycle management will use petty policy to let the individual go.

    Pros

    Great people to work with

    Cons

Do not believe all the praises Align has received in recent months. Align launched a new campaign this year to wash all negative press from years of mistreating employees. A similar strategy is used when fishing new clients, mock support desk are filled with employees from non-technical departments for onsite visits.

I have been working at Align Communications full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Align has the unique atmosphere of a start up, but has the advantage of successfully continuing business for 30 years. Everyone here is pleasant to work with and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done right. They allow you the resources that you need in order to be successful and grow your career. Great team mentality that comes down from the CEO. Overall a great place to work!

    Cons

PTO doesn't roll over year to year, you must use it or you loose it

I have been working at Align Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Align is a company with a unique entrepreneurial culture. Everyone is encouraged to voice ideas, take initiative, set their goals and establish a training path. This is not a place where you can "fly under the radar." If you are self motivated, hard working and an outside of the box thinker then you will be a good fit for this company.
I knew the company and many of its employees for several years prior to coming to work here and was fully confident I would thrive at Align.

    Cons

Most of Align's principal managers have been with the company for 15+ years. While this is a great compliment to the dedication people have to Align at times it can also slow innovation somewhat in our service offerings and our culture.

I have been working at Align Communications full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Strong professional services & managed services offerings, growth based on customer need - build to suit and try to make it repeatable. Great opportunity to work on projects in different sectors and verticals, expand your network, and have some fun. Good money and great place to work, despite what some of the reviews would make you think... Be social, be a part of the team, be a part of the company and you will succeed!

    Cons

Attendance taking. Done for the right reasons - post-9/11 awareness - but still annoying.

Manual processes & heavy reliance on Excel-based tools in lieu of real systems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Toolset needs help. Pick a collaboration package - you have three; pick a way to share files - you have four. Don't expect Microsoft to have an answer to everything, especially when Apple & Android rule the BYOD market.

    Pros

    Good resource and project management
    Great engineers to work with.

    Cons

Salaries are much smaller than competitors
Upper management is lost and try to micromanage everything
    No vendor/partner interaction and support

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become serious player on the market. Not some small 2 men shop, with 250 pairs of smart hands.

    An organization without a rudder

I worked at Align Communications full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Align has a distinguished history of delivering projects to their clients for over 26 years. The stories of the owners running out of their apartment with less than 10 employees is a compelling story of success. The organization has a number of very high profile clients that gives the organization the perceived credibility that enhances the ability of the organization to grow and succeed. The company has decent benefits and many of the long time team members are extraordinary technology professionals.

    Cons

Unfortunately, this does not extend across the entire organization. To understand Align you need to understand that they essentially multiple companies in one. The Data Center Build and Migration business is the bread and butter of the organization and the only one that makes money. The company has been stagnant for many years; teetering on profitability. The organization is bloated, inefficient, and dysfunctional. The idea of expanding into the technology, consulting, product sales and solution delivery and implementation business would appear to be a good idea given their track record, but management does not have the necessary experience in this type of business to run it effectively. There is very little and very poor management of the technical delivery side of the business and the organization has been unable / unwilling to implement applications and systems that would help them become more efficient. Why automate when you can hire more people to do the process manually? The result is that the organization is plagued with manual processes. The administrative side of the business is larger than every services delivery department in the company. Innovation is discouraged. Telecommuting is not allowed. Employees are not trusted as is evidenced by the fact that attendance is taken every day to confirm you are at work. The result is high turnover (usually less than 2 years), unhappy sales and technical talent and a general level of frustration that blankets the entire organization. Recent efforts to improve sales by focusing on one storage product has resulted in a mass exodus of engineering talent that is truly stunning. Just look at the number of open positions that are being advertised. It's not because of growth; it because of turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Align should get out of the product sales and implementation business and focus on the one business that it is good at. Unfortunately, there is very little chance that the VAR side of the business will survive given the number of top notch individuals who have left this side of the business. Recruiters are in continuous contact with every engineer with offers from better organizations with more upside and opportunities to have a better life / work balance.

The fact that reviews on this site, dating back many years, are still unresolved problems, basically tells you all you need to know about this organization.

    I worked at Align Communications

    Pros

Great benefits. Solid opportunity for educational advancement for engineers. Certainly some high quality individuals. Strong engineering talent.

    Cons

Poor employee retention/satisfaction. Leadership lacks direction and the ability to foresee and execute on industry trends. Poor customer and partner relationship management at senior levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick to core competencies (migration, dc build services). Try to embrace a more modern cultural environment. Emphasize a professional and personal interest in employee satisfaction.

    Pros

A great company to start your career and end your career. Great culture only if the CEO likes you.

    Cons

There is zero career advancements once you have been with the company for more than 3 years, and there is not a set structure for performance reviews or salary reviews.
The CEO and Management will typically let you go on the same day you resign without paying you. Do not give them a two weeks notice.
