Good for some, bad for most"

Vice President (Former Employee) New York, NY

    Pros1. Free Snacks
    2. Free Food
    3. Computer equipment
    4. Corporate Amex Platinum - with that comes great perks when traveling

Cons1. No one team atmosphere, every practice operates differently.
    2. Annual review is a complete joke, you can have a stellar year but if you are not buddy buddy with an MD. Forget about the promotion
    3. Boy's club atmosphere
    4. Work/Life balance doesn't exist

Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to the values that Mr. Jay Alix believed in and make it a great company. Have a real formal process to review employee performance. Have an upward feedback program.

    Turnaround & Restructuring Services

    Director (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsThe firm has a great reputation in the industry. The client delivery people are very good. Good place to start your career in restructuring.

ConsThere is very little room for advancement beyond the director level and there are a lot of director level employees. Interim management opportunities primarily go to managing directors.

Senior teams who minimize PowerPoint and maximize impact

Director (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsGreat colleagues and work experience. Small enough that it is easy to build an informal network. Bill actual hours so utilization is really high for those who are staffed.

ConsIntense working experience, extremely high expectations, and lots of travel. Never in home office, in fact many consultants don't live anywhere near the office to which they are assigned.

Good place to work but overgrown.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsSmart people. Interesting engagements with opportunities to work on high profile cases. Good benefits and sense of family. Results oriented.

ConsLack of direction within the firm. Lack of career guidance particularly at senior levels. Spotty communications.

    Contract Position to Permanent

    Associate (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsVery flexible with time off and personal matters.
    Excellent contract rates.
Very independent work environment, little micro-managing.
    Great, respectful management.

ConsTransition from contract to permanent position is brutal.
Little to no feedback about what to expect regarding contract.
Rate is drastically cut from contract to permanent position.
Earned bonus program is poorly structured - you actually get paid less as you work more.
Will bring you contract at a different title, then bump you down once you "convert" over to permanent.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't string along contract employees after you put them through the stringent tests. If they meet all the psychological/IQ testing criteria, you should know that those type of employees do not want to have their careers strung along.

AlixPartners - A Great Place to Develop Career

    Director (Current Employee)

ProsWork on high profile assignments with top notch clients in diverse industries. Have opportunities to expand skill set and network to further develop career.

ConsGiven the consulting environment, the job is highly unpredictable. There is an unspoken expectation that work life comes before personal life in most situations.

Advice to Senior ManagementOpen more communication regarding the compensation and promotion criteria. Most people are very happy with AlixPartners, but would like to have more insight about these critical issues.

Great plays to work, but with caveats

Consultant (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsGreat brand name recognition in the relevant industries and market segments; it started out as a turnaround firm but has branched out to other areas, including financial advisory services (FAS). However, at its core it's still a turnaround/restructuring firm; it continues to have excellent brand name recognition in this particular segment. Within FAS the corporate investigation practice also has done well and is growing rapidly. The compensation system is good, particularly one is willing to put in long hours. The firm has very good future prospects and likely to benefit greatly in the recessionary environment where many firms/industries are looking for performance improvement and turnaround services.

ConsCertain practice areas have little work-life balance; poor communication from management. It is extremely turnaround-service centric and the leadership shows little respect or recognition to the accomplishments of other practice areas.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more encouraginf of good performance; provide regular feedbacks; open clear communication channels with employees

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
