Little Gets Accomplished, PowerPoint Driven 20 Person Meetings to Schedule Meetings, Managers with No Subject Expertise

    I worked at AllConnect.com full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I received a decent compensation. Some some good people work here. The business model is great and has great potential, and the casual work environment is nice.

    Cons

Working here is demoralizing and frustrating. Very little gets accomplished here. Most meetings (and there are lots!) involve 2-4 people from 3-4 departments who all must 'buy into' the goal or strategy, even if it barely touches their departments. People in multiple departments want to drive the decisions in other departments for which they have no expertise or experience whatsoever. And literally we had meetings to schedule meetings...very very frustrating. Add to that managers/executives who have no expertise at all in the department that they manage, meaning they manage you but have no idea what you do...for example a CMO who has little or no hands-on marketing experience but is a CMO because he/she has a business degree...this is a very bad combination. And don't worry about actually having to do what you were hired for. As long as you can prepare fancy PPTs, you'll do well here. I probably spent 30%-40% of my time working on Power Points to get 'approval' from other departments for what we were doing instead of focusing on helping to actually drive revenue impacting goals. And others in my department spent even more of their time on Power Points...what a waste of talent. Last of all beware of management promises of special compensation. They lied to me; after 2 years they never delivered. Of the eight companies I've worked for in the last twelve years, this is by far the least efficient and most frustrating place I've worked at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers who are actually experts and extensively experienced in the areas they manage. Give departments the autonomy to make decisions within their departments without oversight and direct micro-management from finance or other departments. This ought to solve many of the meeting issues and wasted PPT focus allowing expert employees to actually focus on reaching the companies' goals. Build a more team-oriented, family atmosphere of cooperation and drive to excellence; these were really lacking.

    Pros

You have potential to make quite a bit of money, depending on if you enjoy peer pressuring the public into purchasing things, they do not want, to make your management happy.

    Cons

If I had to rate my experience within the past 5 years of working at AllConnect, I would most definitely rate this company in the negatives. Considering nearly every employee working there hates waking up and coming to the hellhole, and seeing the faces of evil everyday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some humility. Fire all of the supervisors, trainers, recruiting, and hire new ones. Also, fire the CEO. Fight the power.
