It's given me a social standing and security when I had none. It made me grow in confidence to explore new horizons.

Official Language Officer, Faculty Member (Former Employee) Hyderābād (India)

ProsIt is an Indian Nationalized Bank and working for a Bank in the Officer's cadre of a bank was always considered elite. The benefits other than the perks were attractive enough and provided a sense of security.

ConsIts a routine job that you keep doing day in and night over and over right from the day you join till the day you retire. There is nothing that stimulates a creative mind.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprovise on innovations and improve the quality of employee-customer relations.

Wrong organisation for someone who aspires to learn and do big in life

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood organisation for ladies, for whom Bank may open branches at their homes to accomodate them, perks satisfactory, good promotion prospects

Conslythargic culture, no decision making capacity of seniors, wrong mapping of talent to job role, full of red tape, will not let you go or issue NOCs for other jobs, no scope of learning of varied aspects of Banking

Advice to Senior ManagementTell people with wider locus of control to move with time and shed off their century old ideology, otherwise organisation would lose talented people and would be left with only mediocres who would be loyal parasites with negligible contribution

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

It has been a wholesome one

Senior Executive (Current Employee) Mumbai (India)

ProsIt is the oldest Bank , and a Public Sector one , in our country ..which has completed 149 years of its existence and that too in the same name . It is a big feat indeed. It has seen the pre independence struggle for freedom, it stood like a rock in the great depression of 1930s , it maintained its calm and placid nature during the two world wars and many more smaller wars , and recently it has emerged stronger from the recession through USA and elsewhere.

ConsDownside in line with the Banking Industry , but at the same time the conservative character of this organization makes it more resilient in the event of likelyhood of any downturn

Advice to Senior ManagementWe need some more stress on the marketing aspect .
