I worked at Allegheny General Hospital (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Pay great fellow nurses, very friendly Doctors are friendly

    Cons

old equipment tough to get in contact with PCPs sometimes on day shifts the shift pattern isn't great -rotating shifts 7a-7p / 7p-7a every other weekend; Friday night doesn't count as a weekend shift.

    Advice to Management

consider establishing contracts for permanent nights and days Friday night should be counted as a weekend shift

    Pros

Friendly, hard working staff, patients are awesome. Highly experienced Nurses that desire to give the best care. Very caring and compassionate.

    Cons

Not enough ancillary help, rarely get lunch breaks, very stressful. Nurses are often pushed to the limit as far as time and energy.

    Advice to Management

Need more ancillary help, larger supplemental staffing team.

I have been working at Allegheny General Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Experience from a level one trauma center with stroke accreditation.

    Cons

They really need to treat employees like human beings instead of working them to death. I work 12hr shifts with no lunch or breaks. I get mandated to work overtime which is illegal. We are so understaffed it's actually unsafe for employees as well as patients. Management doesn't try to fix problem, doesn't care...as long as the work is getting done thats all that matters to them. We just brought the union in so hopefully there will be some well needed changes happening soon but I can't wait for that. I need a new job.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating employees like they're replaceable and maybe we could get them to stay. Also treat us like we're human beings that may need a bathroom break in a 12hr period.

I have been working at Allegheny General Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

My department had a good management team, most coworkers are good at what they do and are very good with team work when needed.

    Cons

Department management levels either resigned recently, retired, eliminated. Elimination of shift(s) causing single coverage for Evening and Night shift that need that extra person. I am working single coverage with no help from anyone 3 sometimes 4 days a week. Pay is below the poverty level. No cost if living raise since I have been with the company and those who have been there 15+ informed me that they have not received a cost of living raise for the past 10 years.

    Advice to Management

Have proper 2 person coverage for every shift 7 days a week. Pay your employees $15/hr due to the cost of living in Pittsburgh is Higher that your Canonsburg Hospital where you are paying their lowest employee $14/hr

I worked at Allegheny General Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people at Allegheny General Hospital with whom I worked, where wonderfully compassionate and dedicated people.

    Cons

The administration aspect of the hospital left a lot to be desired. It didn't appear, at least to me that the OR, in particular, was run very well at all. This caused an undue amount of unnecessary stress. I felt it was very unprofessional. Because of that, I would never go back there to work, unless there was a drastic change in the management of the OR dept. in particular

    Advice to Management

The right hand should know what the left hand is doing....abuse the staff by not providing enough coverage to allow people to eat or use restroom....makes for very bad morale and attitudes.
