I worked at Allegra Direct Communications full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Met and worked with several great people throughout the time I worked here. 40 hours a week and overtime on occasion. Medical, Dental and Vision benefits are offered. Several locations.

    Cons

The pay is awful, the raises if they come, come few and far in between. The tell you they offer reviews quarterly but you have to ask for them and then there are all kinds of excuses as to why you will have to wait for your review and then tons of excuses for why you don't get a raise. Though medical benefits are offered you have to pay and by the time you pay you don't have much of a paycheck left. There is no retirement plan whatsoever..no 401K at all. Those poor people who have been there for so many years and no retirement plan? The drama at the offices are incredible. So high schoolish. Even the upper management including Supervisors are involved in the drama. You can even find the Supervisors sitting in their office with their "favorites" talking about other employees in a negative manor. Turnaround rate is high and can see it hasn't changed even after a couple years. It's like a sweat shop, work work work for no pay. Oh and don't think you can go get a job at BCBS making the better pay because once BCBS finds out you work or worked at Allegra they don't hire you, something about their contract that keeps you from working for BCBS directly for at least a year or 2. The supervisors only promote their favorites to higher positions and some of them have no business being in those positions. God help you if you ever get sick or have surgery and need to be out for a couple weeks. They don't offer Short Term disability so you don't get paid for the time off and the only way you get paid is by using your vacation time. The owners are out for the almighty dollar without the care of their employees. The dress code is a job and many employees come in dressed less than appropriate. Little pay for the amount of work required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You would think that after years of high turn around rates you would have learned something by now. Learn how to better treat your employees. If you pay more you might find more dedicated employees. How about offering some kind of retirement package? Listen to your employees, at the end of the day they really aren't asking for much. Overall you get what you put in, you hire less than stellar employees you get less than stellar work. Your employees are overworked and underpaid.

I have been working at Allegra Direct Communications full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pros are that you learn the ins and outs of health insurance. I knew absolutely nothing about how health insurance worked and claims until I cam to this company. You are able to work full time hours with the occasional overtime, but that's only when they need you. It's a job and you have to do a lot to actually be fired from here because they desperately need the help.

    Cons

There are several cons about this company. The pay is bad (you start off at 8.00 and you have to work your butt off and beg for even small increases). You can paid vacation time but personal time and sick time is unpaid and you RARELY get that approved. It's very easy to accumulate "points" against you for tardiness and when you have to leave because like I said, you seek approval for time off and rarely get it but your life does not stand still because of Allegra. No one properly calculates or keeps track of the points so it's pointless to even worry about them. There are monthly meetings for improvement but you don't get anything you ask for at the meetings so you don't want to give the company 100% for them to accomplish their goals. The bathroom's are disgusting and reek all the time, the floors are never vacuumed, and who knows how often the lunchroom is actually cleaned. The communication in the company is so poor overall it's no wonder their many goals for the company and the employees are never met and probably never will be. It's a huge catch-22 and I'm very tired of the same thing at this place with no improvement. Save yourself the hassle of applying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to communicate much better with the owner and the owner needs to listen to and properly evaluate the suggestions she is given to improve the company and the relationship with the client. Lack of communication is a major part of the problem. This is constantly acknowledged but no real steps and effort has happened to really improve this. I can't wait around anymore for these empty promises with this place and many of your other representatives will eventually feel the same and find something better themselves.

    Pros

Paid training to be CSR for Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance. Valuable experience you can take with you.

    Cons

Training pay currently $8. per hour. Get $1 raise when hire permanently. We make half of what a actual BCBSM CSR make. Very strict with attendance policy. Get points for absence even if sick with an excuse. They have no problem letting you know your purpose to answer phones and make money for Ceo. No retirement plan

    Pros

Great customer service experience if you like helping others. You learn about medical insurance.

    Cons

Lazy management, less pay for more work. Training does not last long so some important information is not covered until you start taking calls.
