    Pros

I enjoy the work I do at Allergan; it's a big company, but with that there are a lot of opportunities for exposure and growth. I believe they try to retain and develop top talent. If you are ambitious and strive to be involved with the company, it's very possible to achieve that here. The company has made an effort to be transparent and strives to listen to its employees.

    Cons

Too many SOPs, processes, and administrative work! Too many work streams that often end without result. Too top heavy and too many layers! Would be nice if Allergan strove to compensate based on fair market value, and promoted beyond minimal percent increase.

Unfortunate mix of technical talent and incompetent management

    Pros

Technical challenges and resources available. Getting paid.

    Cons

Where do you begin? Poor management in general. Work under fear. Backstabbing occurs frequently. Turf wars. Unfair employee treatment. Beware of HR (retaliation is common place). Much money and time spent on nothing that moves forward. Company does not care about innovation and generally new products from within. They will tell you otherwise but history has proven this. Both from pharma and med device end of the business. Hypocrisy abounds.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change your business model for R & D. Millions of dollars and years of time spent on products and technologies that go no where. Technical talent is first class. Upper management, marketing, do their best to kill new products. Do not preach company value system when there is no precedence. Employees can see through the hypocrisy.

    Pros

Great benefits and employee incentive plans. Employees who performed well were rewarded accordingly. Good work/life balance, with onsite gyms and programs to aid with your well being.

    Cons

Lots of competition among employees who aren't in management. Hard to get recognized beyond your "average" duties. I was part of a company who was "acquired", so therefore felt quite expendable. Unfortunately I was a casualty of a Big Pharma buy-out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice to recognize lower level employees, who are often taken for granted, but are just as valuable to the overall success of the company.

    Pros

Good benefits, Salary is on par or slightly higher than market. It's a good place to work and learn what you can and then transfer out.

    Cons

Very political environment and there is little room for growth. Culture of fear. Also, can be very frustrating place to work due to lack of knowledge of mid-upper management. Very cliquish and there are some very confused people in management.

    Pros

Understands the importance of work-life balance. Great people that desire to put in their best. Offers great benefits and fair compensation.

    Cons

Numerous functional departments leading to silo'd culture. Change occurs, but at a slow rate due to occasional bureaucracy. Needs to differentiate who are leaders and who are suitable to be managers. Leaders are not always managers, vice-versa.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more effort into the talent development of people. Integrate values into all aspects of work.
