I have been working at Allergan full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Despite what many say, you can have growth opportunities if you're seen as a valuable asset. Allergan does prefer to grow internally.
    -Large R&D budget
-The company is very strong financially
    -Pay/benefits are good

    Cons

-Currently going through a hostile takeover. If it goes through, don't bother looking at Allergan anymore.
-Corporate culture is still old-school. Business casual attire, no gym subsidies, etc.
-Silo'd organization. People are so silo'd they barely know what their neighbor is working on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Breakdown silos and create a cleaner organizational structure. HR needs to play a stronger role in creating a modern corporate culture.

I have been working at Allergan full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Consistent messaging. Focus on what we deliver and its impact on our patients. Emphasis on collaboration, passion, innovation. Great place for a go-getter who is not afraid to take on more responsibility in pursuit of greater opportunity. Competitive salaries and benefits. Beautiful campus. Encouragement and tools to get healthy-stay healthy.

    Cons

Like every other organization, we now do more with less. Maintaining that work-life balance is an increasingly challenging state and a sign of the times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to provide in roads for dedicated employees to advance, and offer cross-training and mentoring to increase their value to the organization.

Research sometimes requires coming in on weekends and holidays to complete experiments. Somewhat strict company policies.

    Pros

    Nice campus, OK benefit.

    Cons

Lots of unqualified people in management roles. There is no appreciation for actual achievements, you will not get promotion or bonus unless you kiss up to management. HR is not there to protect employee rights and is the management puppet.

I have been working at Allergan full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, schedule and co-workers are great. You often work in an environment with intelligent, hard-working people who are dedicated to doing the right thing and challenge you to excel.

    Cons

The work/life balance can be non-exisitant; promotions can be very hard to come by, and are often based not on the merit of your work or need, but only if there is a vacancy in that next position/title.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management can be very disconnected and unresponsive, I would like to see them become more involved.

I worked at Allergan full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Most employees are good and smart, many opportunities for growth. Good time-off policies, good work environment. Treat long term employees well.

    Cons

Inconsistent promotions duration among different departments. Unfair compensation for amount of workloads and between levels. For example an employee at a lower level makes almost as much as an employee at one higher level who has much more years of experience and responsibilities. Some department started to implement horizontal advancement instead of vertical.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
