I worked at Allergan full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

One of the best reasons to work at Allergan is the atmosphere of the staff. Everyone is very professional and willing to listen to their colleagues opinions.

    Cons

The company was purchased by another company Actavis so not sure how that will affect the Irvine location. The intention of Actavis is to keep the Irvine facility but I don't know more than that.

I have been working at Allergan full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Solid core of management team. Very flexible company for top performers. Consistently strong performing company with opportunity for career growth.

    Cons

Stability over the last year has been called into question given the recent merger activity. Massive layoff possibilities has caused many to lose focus.

    Advice to Management

More transparency throughout the merger process would help to allay the fears of the workforce. A more refined program for career development pathways.

I worked at Allergan full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Descent pay and benefits. The facility closed down as part of some merger money saving scheme. I was hired towards the end, so I can’t say I know too much about working there, but that is irrelevant now anyway.

    Cons

    Research Facility closed in Goleta.

    Pros

Smart, dedicated people. Focus on patients. Quality products. Beautiful campus. Good pay and benefits. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Ridiculously bureaucratic, even though management prides itself on being "nimble." Way too many meetings.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on data and results. Determine the organizational structure based on what works, not consulting firm's advice.

I have been working at Allergan full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great Products and growth potential.

    Cons

Used to be great, used to care about employees. Cut staff in half with the same workload, unstable, layoffs every few months. Stressful and emotionally exhuasting.

    Advice to Management

Don't step on the older experienced employees to advance the new hires who are fresh out of school PHDs. Create more advancement opportunites for employees. New high deductible medical plans are the pits.

I have been working at Allergan full-time

    Pros

At the independant (pre ACT takeover) Allergan, the scope of work that I did was so broad, that I got a chance to do a little of everything...it was a great learning opportunity, and I took great advantage of it. The pay and bonus structure was good as well.

    Cons

Post takeover, scope of work is narrow and I'm getting frustrated with doing the same thing everyday. Politics is high within the QA group.

    Advice to Management

Thin out QA more...it can do with it. And get the Corporate QA group to grow some balls and be able to get the sites to do what is required to reduce the recalls.
