    Pros

    Store discount, great Boots product discount, positive co-workers and management. It's easy to get time off when requested. Paid Holidays and no evening hours.

    Cons

    Working every weekend. It's challenging to meet goals when the store is slow. When I request testers and supplies, it takes a long time to actually get them. I order early so I can get what I need for the future.

    I worked at Alliance Boots

    Pros

    While being a beauty adviser for Boots, I was a representative for the brand inside a local Target store. Target is one of the only places to buy a limited selection of Boots cosmetics and skincare products in the US. It allowed for self-management which you rarely find in retail positions unless you are a manager yourself.
    The PNW DM is very knowledgeable and a pleasure to work for. The amount of information regarding all the products can be overwhelming at first but, gets better with time.
    Boots is a great company who put a lot of quality into their products. There is potential to make well over your hourly rate with some great commission for "bonuses" when you meet goal.

    Cons

    Relying on other Target team members to account for customers needs was hard to always establish. The Target team would treat you like their fellow employee and at times made demands for you to help around the store and outside of your assigned section of solely Boots cosmetics. This made things difficult especially since you are ranked on the daily, weekly, and monthly sales of the Boots department within "your store"
    Splitting commission with coworkers when you split a store can be somewhat discouraging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give more opportunity for growth to your beauty advisors!

    Pros

    Massive focus on development, very approachable and friendly for a global company. Boots UK in particular doesn't feel overly corporate other areas of the group are more so, but still a lot less so than competitors. Development focus means you can have all the opportunities that you want provided you show the willing and get up and go to take them on. Will be an incredible place to work over the next few years as we merge with Walgreens. There will be increasing opportunities to work globally. Many opportunities to work with household brands and names. Lots of room for improvement in this dynamic time so always lots to do! Business needs are constantly changing and there are plenty of long standing attitudes / processes to be challenged. Great time to really make a difference.
    Great support packages for learning / qualifications.
    Great discount card.
     Passionate and interesting senior management - very relatable and hard working. Many have worked their way up through stores so they genuinely have passion and sound knowledge. You will meet many people who have been with AB a long time!

    Cons

    Most people work in Nottingham - could use some fresh thinking at times. Long established history - means some processes are out of date and cold be made much quicker and more efficient. Very much a Nottingham based business therefore it often fails to attract top talent, something it will get much better at no doubt as its global presence gets much bigger. Benefits packages aren't really aligned with other companies of a similar scale, however AB managed to grow in a recession so the cost cutting mindset is at least working.
    Needs to challenge itself to work faster, to exercise its influence over pharmacy and healthcare to make a big difference to the community and help out the NHS.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It's all in the detail. The initiatives are correct and so are the beliefs it's in the execution lower down and sometimes these things don't quite translate. Don't compromise on employee quality - if performance isn't there make the repercussions more clear

    Pros

    Staff discount on everything with enhanced discount on boots own branded goods. Health benefits, including free eye test and discounted glasses, company bonus scheme. Great working environment, lots of room to progress.

    Cons

    Store managers can be under pressure to save on salaries, this puts pressure on the store teams who are running at max all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get out of head office, get out there on the shop floor and listen to your teams whom are the face of Boots.

    Discount is pretty good. That's about it.

    Cons

    Staff treated like dirt, management is poor, never listens. No chances for promotion as Team Leader positions have been scrapped to save money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Quit. Listen to staff more, don't just promote "yes men" who can't lead or manage in any way. CARE about your staff like you pretend to with customers.

    Pros

    It is good place to work for someone who likes to build customer service based career.
    There are many pathway to peruse toward a career goal. Boots offers a range of development programme which helps someone to become healthcare assistance, beautician or manager.

    Cons

    Recently, they are cutting down their human resource budget. Less resource allocation leads more work pressure in given time scale. Effectively, it becomes challenging to cop up with daily duties and participating in development programmes. At the end, it largely impact the development opportunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management should understand, Only satisfied and skilled employee can offer satisfactory customer service.
    Available staff gives an opportunity to develop and offer better customer service. Satisfied customers come back again and again and even bring more customers. After all, customer drive sale and profit.
