Pros
The owner is a hard driving individual. Very knowledgeable and hard working management. I learned a lot while working at Alliance. Tasks issue to me required me to figure out many things on my own. Immediate management was bogged down with deadlines and tasks, unable to assist in the learning proccess. The atmosphere was kind of 'make or break' to new employees.
Cons
The atmosphere is 'stiff'. The possibility of getting called into the 'big bosses' office and berated was there all the time. The principle was not a bad man, just very hard driving and intense, with a touch of OCD .
Advice to Senior Management
Don't yell at employee's! Admin should not be yelling at engineers.
Pros
Location - Very convenient to everything in Columbia.
Revolving Door - During the years I spent there I saw over 40 professionals come and go, so that helped me build and large personal and professional network in SC.
Cons
Senior Management - The upper management has a reputation (well deserved) throughout the professional community for being dishonest in their professional and personal interactions.
Lack of Mentoring - Due to the very high employee turn-over rate, Alliance has trouble developing and maintaining competent and experienced professionals.
Extremely Demanding Work Schedule - You rarely put in less than 50 hrs per week and there will never be discussions of overtime. If projects go over budget, you will be asked to complete the remaining work on you "own time". You must apply to take vacation time 3 months in advance and they will ask you how you "plan to make up the missed time?"
Advice to Senior Management
Realize that your most valuable resource is you personnel and you can minimize a lot of the dissatisfaction within the company.
Pros
Nice office with some pretty nice equipment (computers). Location is nice if you live in the Columbia, South Carolina area.
Cons
Owner has no respect for employees. Employees are considered to have a bad work ethic or a bad attitude if they do not work 45-50 hours a week without overtime pay.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should show their employees that they value them, treat people with respect, and allow employees to have a personal life without professional consequences.
