I have been working at Alliance & Leicester

    Pros

The area that I work has a supportive environment. There scope to move up the ladder and the director has open-door policy and encourages positive and negative feedback.

    Cons

The productivity targets are based on numbers only and not customer service. The job can be robotic and employees feel undervalued.

I have been working at Alliance & Leicester

    Pros

    Highly able workforce.
    Bank holidays off work

    Cons

    Overworked.
    Less bonus than other banks.
Fragmented departments due to many mergers affect prospects of promotion & also make simple tasks often complex.
    Outdated systems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR should not use recruitment bans, overworked, under resourced staff are the reason why customer service at Santander is shocking!

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Alliance & Leicester

    Pros

A good place to work if you have children as most areas are prepared to accept a degree of flexible working. However, this focus on family comes at the expense of many hard working staff members without family who genrally have to work much harder to facilitate this.

    Cons

Glass ceilings inmost areas given a high level of long serving staff taking top positions.
Morale is poor in many areas within head office in Leicester, where bonuses are only available above a certain grade. However, i worked in an area where some people got a bonus , some didnt - even though the job is exactly the same, just down to inconsistent grading. This was very wrong, and i was one of the lucky ones to get a bonus - imagine how everyone else felt!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Base rewards on ability and delivery, not length of service

    No opinion of CEO
