Pros
The only real perks to this company is the fact they offer decent benefits for what is otherwise unappreciated work. Hours generally are steady and Overtime is usually easy to find.
Cons
No real chances for advancement, upper management seems to be complacent and unwilling to work harder for the company. Pay raises generally do not happen and you can be dropped from a site at any time for any reason at all.
Advice to Senior Management
Set more goals for middle and upper management, they are looked at by most Supervisors as lazy, incompetent, complacent and generally giving a stagnate feeling to the company as a whole. There are dozens of opportunities for growth visible to everyone but the Managers. Some employee's would love to move up and take helm of bigger and better interests for the company, but become held back by what most would just call laziness on part of Account and District Managers.
Pros
If you want a really really easy security job. All you do is get paid to sit on your but, thats all you do pretty much, and write down.
Cons
you get paid like, 10 dollars an hour isnt. They dont give a crud about you, i worked 14 hour shifts 2 in a row. Good overtime but no.
Advice to Senior Management
You really need to pay your employees more then 10 an hour, if you want us to "dare to be great" then pay us more money so we have motivation. How are we supposed to live off 10 dollars an hour? so dont pretend you care about your employees.
Pros
easy work, not as labor driven for waht we get paid
Cons
Depends where you work, weather would be the issue. heat, rian, winter cold, etc
Pros
*Easy work for the low average pay
*Friendships built with coworkers
*Location of work
* I can't think of any other pros
Cons
*Pay compared to other security companies is like working minimum wage
*Low chances of advancement
*Too many responsibilities for the pay
*Extremely difficult to take a day off (even after a 2 month notice!)
*Health insurance is not even health insurance its a supplement to help pay medical bills (co pay is $75)
*Micromanagement at its best, every week coming back to work there are new policies to follow or not follow making it impossible to know whats allowed or what to do then the employee gets in trouble for not following policy
*Favoritism
*16 hour long work days! if your relieve called off and they can't find someone to cover that shift. Then if you try to say you can't work it YOU get in trouble. (Driving home after a 16 hour work day then having to come back in 8 hours is a health hazard and a driving hazard!!!)
*No union because of some political crap and the way security officers are employed
*Some customers look at you in a demeaning way
*Life to work balance is unrealistic at some locations (at least where I was)
Advice to Senior Management
LISTEN TO YOUR EMPLOYEES! LONG HOUR WORK DAYS ARE NOT HEALTHY! and pretty much fix every thing in the "Cons" section
Pros
Medical plan. As a large company in the USA, constantly hiring.
Cons
Low pay. False promises of advancement. Management is condescending. If you are an advocate for yourself when an issue arises you are pidgeonholed. Sleep in your uniform and when they say "jump" you respond "how high" and do whatever they tell you. Low pay. NO RAISES. Expect to be treated as a warm body standing post.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to you officers. Watch how you management team treats the officers. If the officers are really assets to you company, treat them as such, otherwise as the economy improves (or doesn't) and more security is needed, the most competent will leave for the firms that appreciate them.
Pros
You have a job & it's not a hard job.
Cons
You must have 24/7 availability with as little as 5 hrs between shifts. Weekly hours vary widely because they have no floaters to cover call-offs & no discipline for repeat offenders. Shuffled from site to site with no orientation or training. Manager is impossible to reach & doesn't return phone calls.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management is spread too thin & has no idea what is going on at the sites.
Pros
The hours are good for the most part and they do offer a benefits package even though no one working for Allied BArton can afford it.
Cons
The management is irresponsible and they never return phone calls. They are not articulate and their emails are always misspelled and grammatically incorrect. The whole company is unorganized, superficial and horrible to their employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to give some praise every once in a while. I am not talking about a $5 McDonalds gift card, I am talking about a call that says...hey, thanks for working that extra shift, or hey... I know you have a family, we understand...or...hey...I am going to do whatever I can to try and get what you asked. It is hard to work for a company that treats you so badly!
Pros
Flexibility, Guess that is about it. There really were not many great reasons for working for working for Allied BArton.
Cons
Benefits discontinued with out prior notice, Work week runs from Thursday to Wednesday. Vacation starts accruing after a year of full time employment and then at 1.x hours per pay period so it takes forever to actually have enough time to take a vacation. You can, however, go into debt to the company for vacation time. Vacation does not roll over from year to year.
Advice to Senior Management
I would give some but they will not listen or care. It really is a shame, they are the biggest, but hardly the best.
Pros
free uniform and training alright
Cons
People in the office were nice but the site they sent me to was terrible and the pay was minimum.
Advice to Senior Management
Make employees visit site before you send the, Hard to work site should pay more than minimum
Pros
Pay decent for part time.
Cons
No trust in that security guards had to walk through a metal detector coming and going to work and also subjected to the wand search. No respect.
Advice to Senior Management
Supervise. Change some outdated policies.
