I have been working at AlliedBarton full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

At most sites you are attached to people with good character

    Cons

Management isn't all that great, The hourly wage is horrible compared to most other security companies and the benefits may work if you are young and single between the ages of 18-25, But if you are in that age range or older with or without families its horrible.

I have been working at AlliedBarton full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If your going to school full time, this could be a great place where you can get paid while doing homework during the off hours

    Cons

People start here going to school, then become complacent and drop out. Before you know it, your there much longer than you should be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay is pretty low for what is expected. You get what you pay for. Pay more, and get more quality officers.

    Pros

Fairly flexible work schedules with the opportunity to relocate almost anywhere within the US.

    Cons

Situations can arise, that will cause you to loose your benefits AND seniority, Such as relocating, and having more than 30 days gap between contracts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cultivate promising people who have the desire and drive to succeed in this industry.

Disappointed by Poorly Trained and Poorly Informed Management

I worked at AlliedBarton full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There is room for advancement for anyone who is already skilled at providing security services in a customer service arena. This is a company that takes advantage of entry level candidates often to the detriment of customers. Experienced employees are given carrots, and attaboys, until it serves management better to replace them with novice replacements.

    Cons

If you are novice you already have an EDGE over management. Beware of ill-advised directions, unlawful licensing practices, and in-fighting between managers trying to best each other rather than serve customers and assure compliance with law (regulatory and employment). There is so much room for advancement that you can easily advance beyond your skill set.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire only experienced management familiar with the state jurisdictions they work in. A HR manager experienced with Pennsylvania employment law may overstep authority in Oregon or Washington. Field managers are under such pressure to produce paper that they are forced to punish employees, even if unwarranted and contrary to state and/or federal laws. Raise the bar for management.

I worked at AlliedBarton full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked with very knowledgeable, considerate people who helped balance work and personal life while meeting business needs. The opportunities abound for advancement if you want to stay within the company and want to meet the challenges and people daily. Be ready to be flexible, professional, outgoing, willing to work flexible hours as needed.

    Cons

I really had no downside issues with AlliedBarton. Due to nature of business there is simply a high turnover of people, some work out and others shine and advance in this career path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tukwila branch office has great people working there.

I worked at AlliedBarton full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If union, they have decent health benefits. Uniforms are provided. Can be very good for networking. In certain cases, there is good advancement.

    Cons

Poorly qualified management. Unable to say no to unreasonable client requests. frequently makes decisions for buissnes reasons that endanger personnel or property safety. Very little experience in practical security. Frequent turnover, and poor hiring practices. Substantially lower than average pay for anyone other than Officers. Poor scheduling practices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to front-line officers and seek their ideas and feedback. Pay people at least a median rate. Promote field leaders for security and site expertise, as opposed to buissness savvy and obedience. Recognize officer's needs outside of work.

Former Employee - Account Manager in Seattle, WA

    I worked at AlliedBarton

    Pros

They have a pretty good benefits package.

    Cons

Lack on concern for a persons development. Very judgmental and lack of motivation to see things done in a manner consistent with their core values, (Mostly when it comes to personnel issues). Discipline first, then ask the questions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Officers are the best resource you have, why hurt your best resource with petty complaints that one of your "Golden Children" got his/her feelings hurt, because an officer did his/her job exactly as they should have.

I have been working at AlliedBarton

    Pros

The possiblility to launch into the Security Field as a carrier. It is a great place to learn if the Security industry is for you.

    Cons

AlliedBarton does very little to support and reward their employees, unless the client approves to pay for it. If you do not get a good client you will suffer and AlliedBarton will only give you lip service and not really do anything to help you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your people just like you take care of your customer. Your employees are your greatest assest, not your customers.

I have been working at AlliedBarton

    Pros

I don't think there is a better contract security company out there. You won't get rich, but pay and benefits are generally decent. I think the average entry level wage is now about $12 per hour, which is certainly better than what you would get in retail or some other no-experience-necessary type job. Opportunities to promote from within (and make more money, of course) are there for those who want them. I am proof of that.

Current district staff and management in my location are great and are still trying to overcome the incompetence of the previous district manager. It was a major cleanup job that still haunts them, but they have really shown those of us at the job sites that they intend to be better. I have the feeling that my management truly cares.

The work can be lots of fun and you can get experience working in vastly different environments. Every industry needs security, after all.

    Cons

While there are numerous promotional possibilities at the entry level, it becomes more difficult to advance in the management ranks. Opportunities are few and far between.

Each site runs based on a contract with a client so things like pay, benefits and other rules are inconsistent. It's the nature of the beast, but it can be frustrating. You could be a shift supervisor at one site making $12 or do the same job at a different site for $15.

Work environments can also range from cushy to uncomfortable, since It all depends on the client site at which you work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep offering one step up from the competition. Better yet, make it two steps!
