I have been working at Allina Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Management really tries to put you where you will excel. People are nice, and there is a lot of flexibility. Good strategic management. Work-life balance is good.

    Cons

The pay is a little less than industry standard, but the work-life balance is very good. The corporate office location is not ideal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to look to the future as health care is constantly (and rapidly) changing.

I have been working at Allina Health as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, decent pay, most coworkers are pleasant, understanding of competing priorities of pharmacy students

    Cons

Hours can be late on school nights, sometimes feels like glorified tech work, pharmacists not that interested in teaching students

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The culture that the upper management would like does not necessarily trickle down to the lower-level employees.

I have been working at Allina Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Worked for an amazing Physician assistant; who was dedicated to the care given to the patients. Good benefits, and competitive pay; (and for smaller towns outside of the metro to the west it makes a difference). Great training; lengthy but nice to be able to get all your CEU's and more if needed.

    Cons

Management micromanages employees. "Word of mouth" is above proper investigation: meaning, an individual will get written up whether the incident took place or not based apon what an employee has stated to them. Management and Region HR lack strong communication skills and the ability to help lead and support; instead will 'judge' an individual's performance based on factual and non factual data. No consistency in both understanding policy and procedures and following the processes.
Individual's in management positions without proper education such as masters degree in registered nursing and business management or lack if any college education.
Lack of "team effort", when someone is struggling, they are repramand the individual instead of coached and supported.
Very hostile and depressive environment. Lots of work to be done yet in areas of both budget ( that's for any non profit company in health care) and management: ie investigate the problem regions and look deeper into the staffing issues and losses and ask not one why? But 5 why's?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes the problem at hand isn't always that employee that was fired; it can sometimes be a combination of people or things. Asking 5 whys instead of one can maybe get to the root of the problem instead putting a bandaid on it for awhile: because it cost you more money to keep training a new employee every time you fire one or one quits because of inaccurate and falsified information that may have made an individual look bad on paper but maybe was struggling and needed some help or when asked to transfer you should have let them.

I have been working at Allina Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The work is very challenging and I'm surrounded by and get to work with some of the most intelligence and compassionate people I've ever met in my life. Evaluated based on outcomes and results (which is how it should be). Allina walks the talk when it comes to encouraging employees to be healthy and offers multiple programs and opportunities to do so.

    Cons

More work here than can be addressed. Allina needs to continue to figure out how to prioritzie and say no to some things. Without a clinical background, I feel my career advancement opportunities are limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent with the changes going on within the organization

I worked at Allina Health for more than a year

    Pros

Nonprofit health care organization. The health benefits were pretty good and the pay was okay.

    Cons

Supervisors are burned out and have little integrity - worried more about their reputation than how their departments function. Teams struggled with embracing innovation. If you can put on a fake smile and pretend you're not on a sinking ship, you'll be okay here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to those who do valuable work, not those who build up your ego. Get involved in your department and get your hands dirty with work. Learn how to lead, not just manage.

    Pros

    Friendly employees
    Good doctors
    Learned a lot

    Cons

Manager did not know the correct interepetation of HIPPA rules
Wrote up reviews without first talking to me about small mistakes ( I know you cannot make mistakes in health care)
    No compassion
    HR would not discuss problems

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have only one person train a new employee in one spot until they understand that job before moving to a new area.
Make sure you like the person you hire and treat them fairly.
