Pros
Market growing quickly, potentially good product, pashionate workforce
Cons
Management has unrealistic expectations and sets unachievable bonus targets, carrys expensive dead-weight empoyees, and has lost touch of what really happens in the business.
Advice to Senior Management
Managers need to get out of the crystal palaces and really listen to what the empolyees have to say. Some have not seen their managers for more than a year.
Pros
Good benefits, good environment, we work hard and I enjoy the pace
Cons
Long days can get old
Advice to Senior Management
Don't just cheerlead the growth aspects of the business that may or may not be profitable, make sure to note the cash machines
Pros
industry is growing and they have means of continuing in the field
Cons
not a lot of market enlightened people in the executive ranks - lets face it these guys are finance people who saw an undervalued asset and thought they could flip it quickly - tullman and shapiro are lost in healthcare and have no idea how to succeed in this market. now they are stuck with pump and dump ideas in a steady as she goes industry. I've got a great idea - lets pay 300M for one company, then "merge" it with another company across town for about the same price.
Advice to Senior Management
there's a reason mcconnell jumped off when you decided to go the mysis way - he's already bought and sold that company twice now - don't you think that maybe he has a little bit better vision they you?
Pros
Quality products and a high level of caring by the lower level staff that actually produces and supports the products. The company cares greatly about client satisfaction. Everyday employees take great pride in what they are developing and rolling out to customers. The former A4 portion of the company is a close knit team that treats each other like family.
Cons
Continuous push from upper management to work harder and faster within ever tightening and often unrealistic schedules. This is becoming the norm instead of the exception. Employee morale is decreasing as the message getting out to employees is "what you have done is still not good enough. Do more. Faster. But make sure it is just as good." And it is to be done with inadequate amounts of resources. Employees that were previously treated as integral parts of the company are now treated as numbers.
Projects are planned by "running numbers" and people are reviewed by "running numbers" instead of TALKING to people to see what the real needs and challenges are for projects.
Some people are managing areas that are not really appropriate and are making bad decisions for the company. This hurts everyone. Their plans and ideas are not to be questioned.
The culture also seems to be one of "taking things away" from employees...things that used to mitigate the low salaries.
Advice to Senior Management
Look up from the numbers long enough to realize that the magic behind the numbers is the PEOPLE. Treat them with respect, and show them appreciation. Treat them this way and they will work above and beyond what you expect! This is a group of people who used to come to work because they WANTED to. Not because they HAD to.
People want work/life BALANCE. NOT work/life INTEGRATION.
Respect that people have lives outside of the office .
Morale is bad. No one seems to address why.
People are told there is an "open door policy" but going in that open door to attempt to discuss these issues would not be wise. There is zero trust of upper-mid to upper level management.
Pros
Learn alot about the industry and their willingness to train new employees on the companies dime. Allscripts was a fantastic company to work for when they followed the concepts and tried and true methods of the great John McConnell. Once Mr. Glen took over everything went downhill.
Cons
Incompetent senior management and Glen Tullman's interest in pumping and dumping Allscripts. Allscripts was always represented as the superior company and was just recently bought out by Misys (a struggling company at best). The biggest downside to working at Allscripts is that the CEO is nothing more than a cheerleader. He blows alot of smoke and rarely delivers on his promises. AHS regularly releases new versions of software that has never been beta tested - a great example is the V.11 of the EMR that has basically flopped since its release.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of your employees and the rest will handle itself.
