Current Employee – been working at Allstate full-time for more than a year
Pros – The opportunity can be unlimited for the right person and the right partners. Reps are paired with Agency owners to work their book of business. If you get a new agency owner or one who understands how the relationship is supposed to work, there is no limit to the financial reward. You control your schedule. Most clients are used to coming to the office to meet. It was rare to go to one's home or business.
Cons – Many Agency owners have been beaten around the head and ears by Allstate management and have lost their motivation and desire. When you get leads, it's up to you to make it happen. There is very little involvement by the Agents after passing the lead. A phone call from the agent to their client may help get the person in the office. Most of the clients I dealt with were low to middle income and offered very little ability to afford life insurance. Many wanted a quote but were not realistic in what they would pay for the coverage.
Advice to Senior Management – The Regional Sales Leaders need to work more closely with new Reps in the first 6-12 months. Very little training after the initial classes at the Regiional and National HQ. One would hope to get a call/visit six months in to determine why the Rep is not succeeding and what to do about it. Make the Agency owners give access to the book of business in order for the Reps to develop new leads.

Current Employee – been working at Allstate full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The salary and salary increases were very competitive, and recognition for outstanding customer service was always given. Other small monetary or item-driven rewards were given out as well to boost employee morale.
Cons – There are not a lot of health care choices with Allstate. And if you interpret the steps in company policy differently than another coworker or a supervisor, you are severely reprimanded.
Advice to Senior Management – Sometimes strict adherence to a policy can be severely detrimental to an employee, or even the company in general. More factors and thought, in general, should go into employee retention decisions

Cons – Lack of experienced leadership on the frontline

Former Employee – worked at Allstate full-time for more than a year
Pros – - Great benefits
- Great office space and dining
- Discounts on products
- Generous incentive bonuses
Cons – - Senior leadership is inconsistent with communication
- Everything is sales-driven (bad if you didn't sign on for it)
- I needed to have surgery on my shoulder. Because of that and time needed for rehab I was told I'd be fired if I got the surgery.
- Not very diverse in age (mostly middle-aged and up at Capital region office)
Advice to Senior Management – While cross-training is good, having management in rotational roles they have no right being in is bad for them and bad for the team they're leading. Moreover, be honest with job descriptions. I applied to do something that was not sales related and was disappointed to learn it was very much sales-driven.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
