    Pros

Great company to work for - many different departments to move around in. Started my career there and I would recommend it to anyone applying.

    Cons

Once you hit management level it is very difficult to move up. Sr. Management does get an idea in their head and sticks with it. If Sr. Management does not like you, it is difficult to advance.

    Advice to Management

Perception is important at this company - unfortunately too important. Take a look at the work your employees do instead of how they are perceived. Often times people are put in difficult situations and you are unable to succeed no matter what they do.

    Pros

If you get on a good team, the day is definitely better. This is one of the few jobs that is heavily influenced by whether your manager is there or not.

    Cons

Absentee upper management, no room to be promoted, little to no raises, low performing employees being kept on

    Advice to Management

Be there. Have legitimate employee evaluations. Fight for your team and their raises.

    Pros

Great training on site and in Illinois at their headquarters. Access at all times to regional person and lots of promotional material. Plus you get a salary at the start

    Cons

Insurance is a commodity and when i ws involved from 2008 etc the market then and now just wnats the best price so i was not competittive.

    Advice to Management

Pay more on the policies, getting 10% or less on policies adds up very slowly. I know it takes years to establish your base, but its hard when you work for days on a policy for home and auto to come up with rates, meet with clients, etc and then you get $100 in commission!

    Pros

Great people, good perks. They put a lot of time into training, so you're prepared for the real deal.

    Cons

Extremely busy, high turnover rate. At one point we had twice as many claims openings as filled positions, but the same workload.

    Advice to Management

Keep making employees feel valued, as usual. However, make sure the workload is appropriate. customers suffer when adjusters have too many claims to get to in one day.

    Pros

You own the "economic interest" in your agency, which allows you to sell it to another individual...as long as Allstate approves that person.

    Cons

Captive agent...the vast majority of your sales are within the Allstate companies. It is becoming increasingly difficult to compete on price.

    Advice to Management

Cut combined ratio by focusing on corporate overhead, which is killing local agents competitive position.

    Pros

Starting pay is quite nice. Lots of room for advancement if you will relocate. Benefits start day one. Lots of events always going on.

    Cons

Since the company is so big there is often something missing between the higher management and the local management. HR doesn't seem to care about people and only push their rules.

    Advice to Management

Show you really care about your employees. I've seen and heard about so many HR related issues where the actions show you won't go out of your way to help your employees. The rules are ALWAYS black and white with them.
