Avoid this employer at all costs

    Clinical Manager (Former Employee)
    Swansea, IL

ProsWeekly paycheck when it is correct

ConsInexperienced Local Clinical Managers, Directors and Executive Director who are unfamilar with Medicare Regulations
HR is virtually non existent and does not support staff
Executive Director will terminate anyone that dares to challenge their ideas or that they dislike.
Leadership team has no conscience and poor business ethics

Advice to Senior ManagementWakeup and clean house. Most of your Executive Directors do not have a clue how to professionally or ethically run a home health agency

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Not a company to build your career with

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe employees are friendly for the most part.

Cons**No raises in 3 years for most employees, despite the fact that the company has made profits.
    **Don't keep promises to employees.
**Upper management (VPs) show very little concern for employees.
    **Vacations are "unofficially" frowned upon.
    **Little room for advancement.

    Advice to Senior Management**stop micromanaging
**get some training for your managers so they can at least attempt to manage well.
**Regular raises would go a long way toward helping morale and retention rates.

I would never recommend Almost Family to a prospective patient or employee

    RN Field Nurse (Current Employee)

ProsIt is a job that pays the bills, not a company to build a career. Use this job as a stepping stone to a better job.

ConsClinical Supervisors are not trained or inexperienced. Management is poor, unresponsive to complaints and issues. Poor communication between staff. No support for staff from management. We are Senior Advocates is just a theme, not really practiced.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on patient care, consistency with patient care, treat all employees the same, respond to complaints, as complaints can easily turn very ugly. Hire experienced employees.

    DON'T WORK HERE!

    Account Executive (Former Employee)

ProsTraining is decent. Office staff are nice people. Good flexibility with your work schedule and not too much breathing down your neck.

ConsThey don't tell you how it really is to work here. You get little paid time off and any time off is frowned upon or you will loose salary for the week. Salary is not competitive, benefits not too good and is there commission or a bonus? NO! They lie. They don't care about you. You will be fired in less than a year so don't work here!

Advice to Senior ManagementNurses should not be management. Get your butts in the filed so you know how it is. You have no idea how to run a good company. You will only keep account reps who are aging and afraid no one else will hire them due to age discrimination. Stop treating everyone like a #.

Patientcare "We areSenior Advocates, as long as those Senior have Medicare with no Managed Care Attached"

    Account Executive (Former Employee)
    West Orange, NJ

    ProsMedicare Certified Home Helath Provider

ConsSales Manager has no sales experience
    Helathcare benefits are sub par
There is a 1k limit on Dental Benefits

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement opportunities are for RN's only

    Corporate Culture/Sales Perspective

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSenior Advocacy platform makes it easy for referral sources to differentiate the services offered from those competing home health agencies are selling. Great sales training, and support (depending on your director).
Lots of education on senior care issues is offered to clinicians and the CEU's are free. This is a nice place to practice as a field clinician; you will gain knowlege and experience.

ConsThe Senior Advocacy platform is viewed as marketing gimmick to attract high-paying Medicare clients. The branch employees, in general do not buy into this platform, which counteracts the sales effort in the communities we serve! Once the new sales reps realize this, they are disenchanted and sorry they came to work here. Few reps last more than 18 months.

Also, there is a terrible culture at this company, and it seems to start with top brass.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees, and show them respect when dealing with them. Sales reps feel as though they are the lowest form of life.

It is common knowlege that poor manners and unprofessional behavior from senior leadership and management at the regional level is tolerated by officers of the company. It does have an effect on performance and results. It really does trickle down. Hire a consultant to address the culture.

Consider paying incentive/bonus on non-Medicare patients.

Consistently pushed to accomplish a lot with little resources

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe pay was a bit more than other home health companies in the area.
Consistent work schedule within the office sector.
    Paid sick, holiday, vacation.

ConsRaises were not done company wide last year, regardless of year review or merit.
Understaffed, and if a position was vacant, you were expected to do your own job and the vacant one, with no extra compensation or recognition.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemain honest, and open.

    Cold, impersonal

    Payroll (Former Employee)

ProsPlenty of work, friendly work environment.

ConsWas never informed in interview process that there is no advancement or raises in the office staff position unless you are a RN. Discouraging when you realize mgmnt gets paid hefty bonuses and you sit behind mounds of paperwork that get dumped on you due to the high turnover.

Advice to Senior ManagementClerical tasks are daunting in this industry. Incentivize. You are looking for talent that will go above and beyond when that type of individual will always figure out in a short period of time that the job can be replaced with a career.

    Not quite family

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere are some really great clients. There is really nothing else good to say about working for this company it has the potential to be something great but that is not what it is concerned about.

ConsPoor pay, unclear expectations, little to no training, abusive managment, no room for growth, obscure bonuses that are impossible to obtain, they strive to provide the least amount of care while pushing for the maximum profit. No raises have been given in several years to any field staff or lower managment. All staff hired PRN but expected to work full time. No mileage paid to HHA's. Nurses paid very low mileage but expected to travel great distances. PRN benifits availible at a cost much higher than is actually made you would have to pay them every week.

Advice to Senior Managementstart at the bottom and work your way up. Without a competive rate of pay it is impossible to find quality field staff without quality field staff you cannot provide quality care. The business would really explode if clients were satisfied with their care and would stay with the company for services. More hospitals and physicians would give the company referrals if they could trust that their patients would recieve the care that they deserve.

friendly people, well intentined, low pay, low opportunity for advancement

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosmission statement, they do believe in this and pay attention to complaints and try to resolve
    friendly co workers
    flexibility

    Conscorporate greed
no raises in three years, retention bonus based on nine months salary for one year of work.
won't pay for clinical excellence in manager positions, as a result, sub par line level management compromises quality

Advice to Senior ManagementUse the continual 20 percent increase in profits each year to give your workers a raise. Listen to them in regard to clinical issues and praise them more, give them incentive to further their education. Offer tuition reimbursement. Stop being greedy
