I have been working at Alpha Technologies

    Pros

Lot's of freedom to pursue a variety of projects. The pay is above average, and the pay increases occur once a year.

    Cons

We are out by the airport, so there isn't anywhere to eat lunch nearby. Also, commuting by bicycle is a bit of a problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward good software developers with pay greater than the cost of living (3%).

I have been working at Alpha Technologies

    Pros

Strong market share, no debt, privately held.

    Cons

Bizarrely antiquated management processes, low pay scales, non-existent HR and professional development, little mobility, they treat you like an hourly employee by actually videoing through secret cameras when you come to work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share the wealth. Be accountable. Fire dead weight. Reward performance. Actually empower talent.

I worked at Alpha Technologies full-time

    Pros

Work experience. Because environment is so toxi you learn very fast how to document everything you do.

    Cons

Bad work environment, compensation way below average. People work there because they either know they can't get a job anywhere else or as a jumping board for bigger and better things. Need proof. No one in upper management (no one!!!!) has been hired from within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start hiring some talend (pay more) and get rid of the dead weight. Alpha is full of people who do not have a clue about how to do their jobs.

I have been working at Alpha Technologies full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

-The company is rather stable while retaining a small friendly culture
-There has been quite a bit of autonomy in both of the positions I have held
-The company does as much as it can to retain working employees

    Cons

-Somewhat polarized; difficult to progress without working your way into sales or having a strong engineering background
-Starkly contrasted business units do not integrate well together and make for a confusing and inefficient infrastructure
-Deep rooted political structure makes for erratic workflow cycles

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The largest challenge in any given day is sorting through what has become a very sprawled out business. By utilizing the existing tools (SAP) in a broader depth much of this frustration could be minimized.

I have been working at Alpha Technologies full-time

    Pros

One of the few professional employers in Whatcom County.
A mix of start-up and long-term, stable experiences available.
Co-workers are easy to work with.
Continued growth even through the recession.
    Decent benefits.
Minimum overtime for salaried positions. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Management has no idea what I do on a day-to-day basis.
Management promises one thing to the customer, and expects engineering to make it happen, regardless of what is actually possible.
Management does not listen to its employees.
    Low salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually listen to your employees. They work directly with the customers, and have valuable insight into customer relationships.

I have been working at Alpha Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good family/life balance. Overall company is very focused on employee well being. Looks like very exciting place for design engineers.

    Cons

Supply Chain/Operations is treated as purely support functions. Sales drive everything, including impossible to meet promises to customers. No clear alignment of Marketing and Operations/Supply Chain strategy

I worked at Alpha Technologies full-time

    Pros

They are a fast-growing company. They are expanding rapidly and there could be room to advance shortly. They are also growing a local brand, presence and reputation.

    Cons

They are experiencing some growing pains from expanding so quickly. There are not clear policies in place and even less training. There is not consistency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the talented people on the bus.
