Former Employee - Night Safety Specialist in Essexville, MI

I worked at Alstom Power full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Set me up in nice hotel accommodations paid plus per diem and good hourly wage with +2 $ overtime, mileage expenses too.

    Cons

Short contract with no notice of ending so soon , one month after start, and night safety specialist job was over; no follow-on to other projects. Safety is not union. Too bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have better company guidelines, continuity, job description when new contracted management arrives to work; Heads up for other projects for follow on, not leave Safety Specialist out of job.

Current Employee - Field Service Engineer

I have been working at Alstom Power full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits, Training, Location, Salary, ability to learn about various different systems relating to power plants.

    Cons

Travel can be pretty extensive at times, but when not at customer sites most of time is spent working from home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When known, upcoming schedule should be shared. A lot of times we have no idea what is going on until told to depart for a specific job, only to find out later it was on a schedule (not seen by the field engineers) for a while before start date. Makes it very difficult to schedule personal things like family functions and appointments.
