I have been working at Alstom Power full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits, Training, Location, Salary, ability to learn about various different systems relating to power plants.

    Cons

Travel can be pretty extensive at times, but when not at customer sites most of time is spent working from home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When known, upcoming schedule should be shared. A lot of times we have no idea what is going on until told to depart for a specific job, only to find out later it was on a schedule (not seen by the field engineers) for a while before start date. Makes it very difficult to schedule personal things like family functions and appointments.

    Pros

Salary, Flexible with hours, no micro-management

    Cons

Won't rehire you once you've left the company to work for a competitor

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rehire former talented employees. Don't be so hung up on four year degrees, sometimes experience far outweighs education

I have been working at Alstom Power full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Co-workers, good benefits, great 401k. Great travel opportunities if your position allows. Local management promotes a healthy work/life balance. Decent pay, but make sure you get paid what you are worth.

    Cons

Layer after later of upper management that does not allow local decisions that need to be made on a day-to-day basis. Layers of management want to be responsible for everything without being accountable for anything. Career advancement moves at a snail's pace. Does not follow through with compensation promises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop looking at the outlook through rose colored glasses and truly understand what it takes to compete in this market place.
