I worked at Alt Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting work. Good experience for people looking to start a career in embedded software development. Young staff. Prime downtown office location.

    Cons

Contract work makes for a large variation in work loads. Scope creep on past projects resulted in poorly compensated overtime.

    Advice to Management

If you aren't going to develop a product, stick to contract employees. Get back into the Waterloo Coop program. Some of the best past employees came from there.

I worked at Alt Software full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Development teams are very intelligent, and collaboration is encouraged. Every employee gets an opportunity to shine.

    Cons

Company lacked financial stability while I was there.

    Advice to Management

Focus on strengthening what ALT Software does best before pursuing new technologies that will require extensive business development before they become steady revenue streams.

I worked at Alt Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Will get plenty of responsibilities - Great to practice formal software engineering methodologies

    Cons

    - Terrible job stability - Terrible management

    Advice to Management

Don't just try to give good news to your subordinates or superiors --- tell the truth, no matter how bitter it may be -- when the truth reveals itself and it's too late to fix the issues, this is what happens; the company goes bankrupt.

    Pros

    - Good opportunity to gain hands-on-experience on very important and deadline driven projects - Great staff - Downtown location

    Cons

Get rid of the current management and hire those who can give realistic estimate, so that they don't just "win" projects bids, but the can actually finish the job in the estimated cost/fee.
