    Pros

Great pay. Staff and family like environment.

    Cons

Nepotism, politics. No clear career path, not much opportunity for advancement. Stagnant.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within, based on performance not favoritism.

    Pros

You get weekends off. That's about it.

    Cons

Salaried staff work 50-60+ hours EVERY WEEK. Under compensated, over worked and EXTREMELY stressful. Growing way too fast for their own good and the good of their patients. Poor quality care claim to be great, look great from the outside looking in but when your on the inside it's just sad. Expectations of managers and staff are UNREALISTIC. Multiple responsibilities placed on them and not just easy tasks major responsibilities usually carried out by 2-3 employees.

    Advice to Management

VPs and CEO reconsider taking off "Employees are the most valuable asset"

I have been working at AltaMed full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Well-maintained facilities Some nice co-workers Occasional morale boosters for the office (eg, cake for birthdays, raffles)

    Cons

This company purports itself to be non-profit health CARE entity, but spends way too much money on managerial staff who are not even remotely involved in patient care. Doctors are under-appreciated for the amount of work they do; many seem stressed to the max. Management can play favorites and be inflexible. Candidates are selected to positions based on who they know in the company, not their skill set. TONS of nepotism -- it is well-known that there are certain people in charge (despite being sorely under-qualified for their positions) only because of who they know/who they are related to and not based on talents/skills.

    Advice to Management

Place qualified people in management positions. Focus on team-building exercises and don't tolerate employees who run the rumor mill.

    I worked at AltaMed full-time

    Pros

Purpose of "serving the underserved communities." Corporate office is beautiful; clinics are welcoming.

    Cons

Too many to list! Career advancement opportunities are available but unless you know someone, you are not moving up. Many "managers" are not qualified to be in those positions. The company does not take advantage of the full potential of their employees. All departments do not work cohesively; seems like they do not trust each other even though they are part of the same organization, working towards the same cause! The organization is still run as though it is a small company and when big issues or projects arise, everyone is forced to run around looking for answers at the VERY LAST MINUTE.

    Advice to Management

CEO and upper management need to realize the company is growing too fast for its own good; they need to address this BEFORE planning on expanding and acquiring more locations (which is what the CEO and upper management solely focus on). How about your focal point be on growing your talent and making the organization, all different departments, run cohesively FIRST.

I worked at AltaMed (More than a year)

    Pros

most sophisticated FQHC (nonprofit) in CA corporate office is nice have a lot of lee way to learn, take on new projects/responsibilities (not sure if this facilitates growth within the company but definitely pro to someone just starting in their career

    Cons

supervisors may not be at appropriate level to generate respect from people they manage there is mismanagement or poor use of intellectual capacity (a lot of people are getting paid to do very minimal work or they aren't getting paid enough)
