I have been working at Altec Industries full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good place to gain a lot of experience. You will get to work on a lot of projects right from the start.

    Cons

Vacation policy is out of date, not enough support staff in some areas. Compensation does not scale up for highly skilled positions compared to the industry averages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update your leave policy to be more in line with the staff you want to attract and keep. Management needs to research what compensation certain highly skilled positions require or they will continue to get lower than average talent.

I have been working at Altec Industries

    Pros

Diverse experience. Allowed to work on a wide range of projects inside and outside of my assigned department.

    Cons

Little to no training received related to how all of the processes related specifically to the company (i.e. filling out paperwork, and accessing certain information)

I have been working at Altec Industries

    Pros

Great benefits packages, great team atmosphere. Annual Christmas/year end gift(something small) and $25 Walmart gift card for a ham or turkey for the holidays. Flexible work schedule allows for school some evenings.

    Cons

Hard to keep jobs flowing at times, scheduling issues with customers is a big factor in that. Staying on top of paperwork can be challenging.

I worked at Altec Industries as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

It is a great, laid-back environment with friendly people. Everyone was willing to help and answer questions.

    Cons

Not a lot to complain about, but the workload was such that it was difficult to complete everything necessary to perform the job requirements the most successful way.

I have been working at Altec Industries full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ability to do whatever you want, focus on lean is a high, a lot of opportunities to learn

    Cons

This is in reference to the Birmingham division. Employees and production supervisors on the floor were horrible to work with. Not nice or easy by any means. Engineers were forced to come in at 6am as well as numerous Saturdays (when not needed). It was a very cut-throat environment, everyone throwing everyone under the bus. It was a union shop, so that doesn't help either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    EVERYTHING needs to be reviewed

I worked at Altec Industries as an intern

    Pros

    1) Laid back, yet productive
    2) Company values are reasonable
    3) Continuing innovation and forward focus
    4) Strong focus on developing engineering solutions to customer problems

    Cons

    1) Many people are a little too concerned about being PC
    2) Compensation is on the low end of average
    3) The work can be monotonous at times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on individual development rather than cranking all the employees through an existing system.

  10.

Decent company based in the south. Has average pay for its account managers.

    Former Employee - Account Manager

I worked at Altec Industries full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere, by far the best product(s) in the market, decent training, and compensation. Really throw money in the training... for the events after the training!

    Cons

Company would be better off providing a lower base salary with better commission... Otherwise the base cuts in to commission which has a cap.
Managers need to listen to sales individuals on modifications/improvements to products, which has lead to some market loss.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff when they providing advice or are asking for help when trying to improve the product to gain sales.

I worked at Altec Industries (more than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits. Pay is good for certain positions. You will love most of the people, especially those on the floor but they gossip too much. Great experience, looks great on my resume.

    Cons

They will use you to death. No work life balance. A "strict" point system. God forbid it snows or you have a legit emergency. You will be pointed for it. They will write you up for every little thing. Just for documentation that you screwed up in case they want to fire you down the road. Human resources will not help you with concerns anymore. The people in HR that would help aren't there anymore. If you are a temporary associate they simply don't care about you. You're disposable to the company, so understand that. A bunch of stupid policies put in place that only apply to some people. I could go on forever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating people like they are so replaceable and be willing to work with those that want to be at the company. Too many have been let go for personal reasons. You can't have any luck in the long wrong treating people badly.
