Pros
Great people, great benefits. They take care of those who are good workers.
Cons
Some management are complete A-Holes. Sending company wide emails regarding an employees approved vacation and thanking others for picking up the slack.
Advice to Senior Management
I would carefully consider how managers at NUECO are viewed. The big man lacks people skills.
Pros
Great benefits, pay scale improves rapidly within the first two years for hourly employees. Stable company with an abundance of work. Plenty of opportunities for advancement with proper motivation. Good hours on first shift.
Cons
Vacation time is pretty poor and there is no paid time off for sick days. Pay scale is just average, not great. Management is very much hands off, and at times unavailable altogether. But make time to enforce very petty rules.
Advice to Senior Management
Hold your salaried employees to the exact same standards as your hourly employees.
Pros
Friendly management, full time work, lots to do, let employees buy scrap metal at a reduced cost, open environment to learn and grow as a beginning engineer
Cons
Somewhat grimy, steel workers union, Material staging is a nightmare, accidents often due to people not wearing their ppe, line supervisors not very involved in improvement
Advice to Senior Management
Try to implement a 5S program and have the line workers buy in with incentives and dicipline that will be followed through by managment
Pros
good health insurance, need more vacation, work hours are good, have a pay check, the hard working people are good people for the most part - they need to drug test people who work there some are not drug free, its the hard working people that make that place successful not mgt
Cons
not enough vacation time, poor pay, terrible boss, people who dont abide by rules and dont get in trouble, mgt dont care or listen to little people, no pension plan, need more holidays off, they take our holidays and change our days off to benefit mgt for other time off not to benefit us
Advice to Senior Management
be considerate, have a back bone, get rid of material supervisor, listen to employees, be more caring, give us more vac days
Pros
Relaxed work environment and tuition assistance.
Cons
Communication can be improved upon.
Pros
It was an excellent manufacturing experience, and a great way to learn about manufacturing without prior experience.
The people that I worked with were good, fun people.
Cons
Most engineers (not design engineers) will work Saturdays and usually work 10 hours daily.
The management is inclusive, but stagnant. They are hesitant to take risks.
Advice to Senior Management
Manufacturing is advancing too fast to be slow to make decisions. Be aggressive and do not hesitate to follow a good plan that will take the company to the next level!
Pros
Great benefits and decent hours
Cons
Bullied into performing tasks not specifed when originally hired. Supervisors undermined others continually, a negative work enviroment in the service department. I have heard that other departments are much fairer and better to work for. The job was not at all what I was lead to believe it was.
Advice to Senior Management
Practice what you preach, and assure your supervisors do the same.
Pros
Good company to work for and good work environment. Gained useful knowledge for future use and developed professionally. Rank this as one of the best companies to work for.
Cons
Average pay and limited chances to travel. Some tasks are not the best, but overall a great place to gain experience.
Pros
I had a great boss. He was very responsive to work I did for him. There are great people who have worked many years with Altec and great family people there too. The benefits are hands down the best. Excellent health, 401k, and dental.
Cons
On the other side there were a few unprofessional people who worked in my department and others as well. There were several times where I was condemned in front of others for my work. Management is very biased in who gets promoted. I watched a manager be promoted after shutting down two departments.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the hard working employees and reward them. When tough times hit don't let go quality employees.
Pros
Plenty of overtime - they expect a 50 hour week minimum
service trucks are well maintained and only kept a couple of years before being swapped out
decent benefits
Cons
Service managers for the most part are a joke that have no clue
Pay for service techs are way below average but they try to justify it by allowing you to work 70 hours a week
Some techs get to float by picking and choosing what they can and cant do, others just have to do everything
engineering support is non existent
Service managers will completely throw their techs under the bus consistently to cover themselves
No promotion options or a career path - 90% of positions are filled by outside people
Everyone gets paid about the same regardless of skill level or work ethics techs that have been here 10 years make about 2 - 3 dollars more per hour than new hires
lots of time spent chasing new hires mistakes
Advice to Senior Management
Look at the existing GOOD techs that you have and take care of them and we wouldn't have such a huge turnover.
