I have been working at Altera full-time

    Pros

lots of opportunities to rotate between different departments access to gym, basketball court, volleyball court, bocceball, pool table, ping pong table, foosball and cafe

    Cons

the FPGA market is generally a pretty mature market, so things move slower than other industries. However, with embedded processors now being the norm in FPGAs, floating point capabilities and availability of the OpenCL programming model, this has the potential to change things

    Pros

Refer to Cons. Nothing proud to say

    Cons

Ugliest management chain. You rarely see R&D management involving in technical discussions. 90% of R&D management spend their time updating spread sheets. Around 6 re-organization announcements in last 14months. If you are an NCG/Inter, i'm sorry to say your life is ruined. You will get lost pretty soon and your hopes becoming a good engineer too.

    Advice to Management

Advice is for Intel Management not to Altera 's Replace the R&D 's first two levels of employees asap. Honestly you can fire them.

    Pros

Good work/life balance. Company culture improved over the years. Internal mobility.

    Cons

Political in many teams even outside of R&D. Reward your top performers. Don't try to pretend to be shocked when an employee leaves and try to retain them after its too late. Main reason for leaving was due to manager.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your people
