Pros – It is a fast growing devices company so there are lots of opportunities for new growth and learning. Also, there are many number of ways to get involved in something innovative.
Cons – Their new employee orientation is horrible, they don't do a very good job of giving you the information you need to start. So, I would say HR overall is pretty bad.

Pros – Solid well-run semiconductor company, cutting edge chips. Excellent pay-scale & benefits. A very competent traditional patriarchal corporate structure, if you like that sort of thing.
Cons – Since Altera comes from a chip-manufacturing background, planning ahead an minimizing risks are deep in the corporate DNA. If you're a software engineer, this can be... burdensome.
Advice to Senior Management – The chips are great, keep that up. The competitive advantage will increasingly be in your software tools. If you want to create great tools, you need great software engineers who love to make tools, and you need to let them do so.

Pros – Profitable. Excellent release management. Good compensation.
Cons – Reluctant to spend money on equipment for employees. No 360-degree review system.
Advice to Senior Management – Resume setting ambitious goals. Currently the only company-wide goal seems to be cost-cutting.
