Pros
AmTrust's HR department (and executive management) promoted work-life balance beyond lip-service, it was reality there. There were also many opportunities for professional development.
Cons
As a family-owned business, nepotism sometimes created an environment that allowed for incompetence in management. Too often, I found myself in large project meetings where heated discussion got out of control and was allowed to continue. And when someone proposed what seemed to be carefully thought out/brilliant solutions, pride of management often got in the way of accomplishing the goal in the most ethical and financially viable manner.
Advice to Senior Management
If you had allowed me to telecommute after my move, you wouldn't have found yourselves in the mess you had months later with the OTS. You didn't place enough value in documentation and process improvement. Effective GRC is critical to a financial institution's survival, I suggest you consider http://easy2comply.com as a GRC management solution.
Pros
You can be very honest, I did not have to sale people...just educate them on the products we had to offer.
Cons
The company was taken over by the goverment (fdic), because it was to small to qualify for the bail out.
Advice to Senior Management
I do not know the new management but hear it's a more stressfull place to work. Managment need to go back to the people careing company it once was.
Pros

Cons
Very disorganized organization. Lack of communication / training between departments and operation support down to the branch level.
Advice to Senior Management
It would be wise to find different ways to roll out communication on all changes that are happening throughout the organization.

Pros
Good benefits and strong management. They take care of the employees. They offer several opportunities for growth and many avenues for success.
Cons
Lacks technology and they are behind the curve on other things. They dont care for employees and are hard with goals.
Advice to Senior Management
You should listen to your employees and their feedback instead of ignoring them. If your employees are happy, customers will be too.
Pros
there were no postives here
Cons
poor management structure and lack of reality
Advice to Senior Management
Most management has been removed by the Fed
Pros
The overal work experience was good. I like the copmany and the group of people I worked with.
Cons
The day that FDIC took over.
Advice to Senior Management
The old management group wasn't as bad as the new one now.
Pros
The bank's entreprenuerial spirit continues and they are willing to try new things. Long history of providing excellent service.
Cons
As the bank grew, they needed to recognize that you can't be that big and still act like a start-up mom & pop bank. The family runs everything. You had 20 somethings running a multi-billion dollar bank. Doesn't work. They don't have the expierence. Experience doesn't pass through the gene pool. Get the right talent to manage the bank or it is doomed. And pay your people what they are worth.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a senior leadership team that has proven experience in their fields.
Pros
AmTrust Bank does make an effort to promote work/life balance, allowing flexible and compressed schedules when feasible. Their "unlimited" absence policy means that if you truly have a need to miss work, you can do so without fear of reprisal.
Also, the individuals I have worked with throughout the bank have generally been highly competent professionals, who are friendly and knowledgeable. People are usually willing to work together and keep a positive attitude.
Cons
AmTrust Bank is a struggling institution, so deep cuts have been made to the benefits package. Many jobs have been cut and, generally, salaries are frozen. The long term future of the bank is at this time uncertain, which has led to a loss of morale within the workforce.
The opportunities for growth and advancement are extremely limited; in general, the desired candidates are approached directly about internal openings. The bank does not have funds in its budget to fund educational experiences for the staff, such as external seminars or classes.
Advice to Senior Management
The senior level of management has eroded some of the goodwill and trust of its employees by initially failing to acknowledge its quite severe financial problems.
