Pros
You have to do everything yourself. Its almost like working in a start up.
Cons
They are so bloody frugal that a developer has to play the role of a PM, QA,SDE-T,build engineer and all others, which leaves no time for development.
Advice to Senior Management
Please treat your employees well.
Pros
Opportunity to work on massive scalability problems
Working on forefront of online retail on global scale
Cons
Brown out, Burn out
On call schedule is taxing, high operational load
Less work and more bragging gives you good raise
Hardly a place for introvert/reserved geeks no matter what they do or can deliver
Advice to Senior Management
Inept manager can ruin good team setups and individual careers
Should put themselves in developers shoes before asking questions
Pros
Huge data volumes
Complex data challenges
Exposure to multiple technologies
Cons
Heavy work load compared to other companies
Pros
Good Brand name and nothing else
Cons
Expectations are way too unreachable!
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees as human being
Pros
Hard work is rewarded in terms of salary
Cons
Promotions and career path is not very clear for employees in India
Plans always keep changing so extremely dynamic people can survive
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more technically challenging work and opportunities in India
Align work culture in US with the work culture in India
Pros
Huge data volume experience to technical people. Learning how things work with huge data volumes. Learning how to do quick fixes during on call support. less amount of documentation to do for testing and design documents. flexible work timings.initial hike and bonus are good
Cons
on call support on weekends. less consideration shown towards employee's at times. Most of the time will be spend in understanding how existing things caused a bug and how to fix that. More focused on getting things done very fast instead of doing the things in best way. no time for thinking or doing things except work. too much focused on frugality at times. Huge time involved in supporting existing applications. Post appraisal hikes are not good. They also pro-ratio %hike based on number of months you have worked for the organization in that appraisal cycle. Not good family and worklife balance. work hard only.
Pros
good growth, friendly culture and good hospitality
Cons
salary compared to other companies
Pros
Nice pay. Other then the pay there isnt much of pros. the work isnt bad but its also not good either. domain knowledge is all you need.
Cons
Well amazon cares about customers but not employees. For a fresher you can gain knowledge about technology for a little bit more experienced person its not a software development company its a retail company. the software development practices are horrible. The tools used internally are a pain.
And also forget about having a life out of work. the people in india expect you to work in day and people in usa expect you to work at night. there are no flex hours and you are not expected to work from home or something like that will not be appreciated
Advice to Senior Management
if you want to hire technology people then the culture needs to change.
Pros
1. Some of the best minds in the world work with you.
2. You're given to work on cutting edge technology
3. Amazon.com has a huge internal software base, and many in-house frameworks are developed.
Cons
1. You have to support what you deliver, this includes a lot of operational tasks, which is a pain for SDE.
2. As you work on most of the in-house frameworks you dont generally get to use the industry standard frameworks.
3. Employees are just working machine for them, frugality is the main principle and that reflects in every coffee machine in amazon, leave alone goodies or office parties.
Advice to Senior Management
Customer service is important, but so is pampering the employees, If you dont do that you will keep on losing some of the great minds.
Pros
money is the only reason
Cons
no work life balance, only work
Advice to Senior Management
be less frugal
