    Pros

Exposure to all aspects of business, good compensation, opportunity to advance both vertically or horizontally, good networking, excellent distribution experience.

    Cons

Upper management is very rigid, expectations are often unrealistic, relatively poor working environment (no AC in Las Vegas DC), culture is "cultish", things move so fast the human element is often lost, many hourly employees are extremely dissatisfied and are challenging to manage.

I have been working at Amazon.com full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There is lots of opportunity for career advancement if you are willing to put in the work and study Amazon's core leadership principles. The fast paced days makes time more bearable. The benefits may be a pretty penny out of your pay, but it is worth it when you need them. Stock benefits are a bit plus. Your voice may not be much as one sometimes, but Amazon makes sure it hears their associates in numerous ways such as associate surveys and round table meetings.

    Cons

The vigorous work schedule messes with your life outside of work. The pay may be nice once the check arrives, but there isn't much time to enjoy it. They also do not have much help for single parents without spending the rest of your paycheck, which can lead to times of turmoil at home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step up your engagement and really hear what your associates have to say. Just a thought.

    I worked at Amazon.com full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Competative pay
    Good benefits
A few decent people still work there.

    Cons

Shady operation- when something doesn't work, they don't look at the broken pieces, they blame the people rather than work with them to correct the problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't play the double jeopardy game (have a corrective discussion with the employee then turn around and write them up for the same issue that had already been discussed and corrected). Also, quit changing policies just because you're not getting the results you want. Give the current policies a chance to take hold and results to happen.

I worked at Amazon.com as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

-Able to learn lots of things
-Interns actually get to do important things. You get to learn what it's like to be a manager and get assigned a project
    -People are hard-working and fun
-Great benefits - pay is solid, housing, car rental

    Cons

-Lack of communication - seemed like associates are given different instructions by managers
-High turnover at company (many managers left)
    -Wasn't the most organized internship

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve communication between management and employees!

I have been working at Amazon.com full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Pay...tolerable. Benefits...just acceptable. Good place to work to see what's out on the market...product wise.

    Cons

Extremely unsafe working environment...they address safety hazards by creating them. Management has an abusive attitude to labor...they use threat and duress as motivation. Mandatory OT...no excuse for it. Favoritism and discrimination guide advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up! Were not in the 19th century anymore. Labor is not your adversary unless you treat them as such.

    Pros

Signing Bonus*- Or so its called. It's actually your stock grant for the next 4 years. Its a nice chunk of change assuming the stock price stays absurdly high. If it comes down to the rest of the market, your SOL.

    Cons

Turn-style of management. Complete unfocused. All projects are flavor of the month for pathways guys to make their presentation to the VP. None of the projects actually sticks. Its all about numbers, but you aren't allowed to influence them using known best practices in the industry. If you are willing to lie, cheat and eat your young, you can move up...where there are bigger lies, cheats and canibals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build talent, don't try to hire it. Revamp the 'forced curve' evaluation program (aka Popularity contest and Pathways promotion point.

Former Employee - Operations Leadership Intern in Reno, NV

    I worked at Amazon.com

    Pros

Great compensation. Extremely fast growing company. Amazon shares with you how they manage one of the largest supply chains and how there are able to handle their operations to meet high demands.

    Cons

Amazon encounters many problems day to day with their operations. This creates tension between managers within fulfillment centers. They are growing at such a fast rate it can be overwhelming for employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate the aspects of the internship more clearly. The desires of an intern's manager gets in the way of the desires of HR and what they are looking for in return from the interns.
