Pros
Amazon has very talented people and open work environment. It's a great place to understand how web companies operate from ground up.
Cons
Amazon is too frugal and company benefits are nothing compared to other employers in the area. Depending on the group pager duty can be atrocious.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership should keep doing the great job they are doing. They should be more open to contributing the open source.
