    Pros

Work along some of the smartest people, challenging work environment, a lot of scope to grow.

    Cons

Sometimes operations eat a lot of time, bureaucracy has cropped up over the time as it has grown, career growth is highly dependent on the business growth of your org.

    Pros

If you are a good leader, this is an amazing place to work. Your peers will be extremely smart and motivated. The standards here are very high and you will be challenged every day. In this job I am never bored, the pace is very fast. The organization values the ability to think through complex issues and continuously improve. Also Amazon is growing very rapidly so there are huge opportunities for promotion. You will advance to the level of your abilities. Under performers will leave the company on their own.

    Cons

Work life balance is tough, typically work 50-60 hours a week and come home exhausted from walking all day.

    Advice to Management

Be frugal, but not cheap. Sometimes we make decisions for short term cost savings that are big losses in the long term

    Pros

    Bleeding edge technology and projects
    Switching teams is encouraged
    Hard problems to solve

    Cons

Management doesn't have a clue about quality engineers. They promote people who they are buddy buddy with, even if they write unmaintainable / unscalable code. They also give out the big projects based on this flawed criteria. No wonder the average time there is about 2 years.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to your engineers, promote those who deserve it, give projects to those who deserve it.

    Pros

Flexibility and networking with other departments. The hours were very flexible as long as I hit my numbers.

    Cons

High volume with no support from management. It was every person for their own. The hours can be long but my manager didn't seem to be very familiar with my job or how to mentor.

    Advice to Management

Really understand your directs jobs and what they do and deal with from day to day. Learn what your employees want from their jobs and help with long term goals.

    Pros

Working at Amazon, for the first time in nearly three years, I actually felt like a human being. They care about their employees as more than just a number, as more than just a body in a chair, and that is an amazing feeling. They treat their employees well, spoil them more than a little, and generally just try and make sure they are happy employees.

    Cons

The primary statistic used for performance measurement was customer surveys.

    Pros

Very competent people to work with, well known company and looks great on a resume, many different sections so able to move around easily

    Cons

Have to log in your work time down to 5 minute which can be dehumanizing. Also, performance is everything and all that is really looked at.

    Advice to Management

Spend less time focusing on metrics and more time focusing on the actual quality of what is being produced to create a better product.

    Pros

Weekly pay, plenty of on-the-job exercise, loved coming across books and products that I was interested in reading and purchasing...

    Cons

Need more breaks! Your ankles, knees and soles of your feet are throbbing with pain--not to mention your lower back.

    Advice to Management

More incentives for the people doing all of the essential 'grunt' work!

    Pros

They share their "Peculiar Ways" up front, and they follow them.

It truly is a meritocracy for the most part.

It was great working with so many extremely talented people.

    Cons

Culture of secrecy. Great when you realize that nobody at Amazon will ever care about anything you order from them. Horrible when you need to deal with other organizations within the company, or even your own product unit.

Advancing from QAE2 to QAE3 is difficult. Advancing from QAE3 to Principal QAE? Forget it.

    Advice to Management

Your culture of secrecy leads to the leaks. Tear down the walls.
