Pros
Good pay and global experience. Very dedicated people.
Cons
Your advancement at this company is completely based on connecting with and impressing senior management. It also helps to be Israeli. There is no accountability for managers actually doing performance reviews and if they do its a joke. There is very little strategic planning so most of your time will be spent running from crisis to crisis. Some managers are better than others though.
Advice to Senior Management
Perhaps asking managers and directors to embody the "Amdocs Values" you pitched to us would make them more of a reality.
Pros
pay is good; some of management is great to work with
Cons
hours are long
there is not a work life balance as you can be involved in calls as early as 6 am and as late as 11 pm. I have seen many fellow colleagues work until 3 in the morning to get work completed. Time line are at times unrealistic and deliverables from Israel are at time lacking
Advice to Senior Management
Keep your emloyees involved and don;t say one thing and do another
Pros
The company is stable for now, the pay is ok, you're exposed to a lot of other job opportunities you might want to consider with other companies or customers. Because of the type of services(Billing and billing related systems) that are offered, it takes a customer a long time to replace anything that Amdocs is doing for them. If you want a lesson in how to survive in the corporate world, Amdocs is great for that. There are lots of jobs so moving around within Amdocs, especially at lower levels is relatively easy. You also get the chance to work with people from a lot of different cultures, which can be fun at times.
Cons
It's who you know, not what you know. Long hours. Company is run by accountants and lawyers. Not really a customer focus unless there is a crisis. You have to have a sponsor at the executive level or you'll never get anywhere. Hard work is usually rewarded with more hard work. You're expected to be available 24/7, even on vacation.
Advice to Senior Management
Have some guts and branch out of the Billing/SI space. Pretty soon it won't be needed. Take a few chances and invest in new business and products - don't wait until the customer asks you to build it for them. Develop some respect for individual employees.
Pros
Top pay and bonuses for a job well done. There used to be quit a lot of travel but this has been sharply curtailed because of the overall cost associated and because they cannot get the clients to pay for it any longer. Overall there are some directors that I would love to work for again both within amdocs and outside of amdocs; however the vast majority I would say are in it for themselves and do not respect many managers perhaps as much as they should. The work is your standard billing and integration type work which is ok but not necessarily fun. Projects can be very rewarding though most are very difficult.
Cons
Very long hours, many project mismanaged by amdocs delivery creating a "sky is falling" effect which leads to death marches and pissed off co-workers who either get blamed for something out of their control or just quit. Some may say that there is an unhealthy competition between amdocs delivery and amdocs consulting. I would say this is true but can also be made to be much worse if you are not well equipped to network with the delivery team. The culture is not best for maintaining a work life balance and you can be sharply criticized for not working late into the evenings
Advice to Senior Management
Practice what you preach. Amdocs proper must allow ACD to properly sell without delivery execs butting in.
Pros
Opportunities, flexibility in career choices. If you started as a tester, there are good chances you will continue to development, then step by sales department role and find yourself in a completely different career place. Sometimes, or to some people this is an advantage, to other - not a benefit, if you are pursuing a goal to become an expert in your field...
Cons
Promotion based on a chance rather then on actual performance. You can be promoted because someone left, got fired, etc, it is not related to how exactly you perform on a daily basis, rather then on a chance.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't recruit outside of the company for middle management positions
Pros
Global company which allows employees to relocate worldwide and supports a culturaly diverse environment. Pretty good level of job security for good performers. Decent compensation (but far from great). Could be an interesting challange, depending on the actual task you get.
Cons
Mediocre benefits and compensation level relative to the amount of work demanded. From Director level and up, advancement is purely political and is completely unrelated to talent, skill or performance. There are many upper management positions currently filled by "deadwood" - people who do absolutely nothing but get paid a high salary. Management is actually supporting a culture of secrecy and opaqueness in internal communications.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep strong people in management positions and don't let them leave. Pay more attention to employee satisfaction.
Pros
Learn a great deal about telco
Cons
many layers of hierarchy; for some travel is too taxing
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good job and continue the growth momentum
Pros
Good pantry..
On a serious note the pay is good.
&You have good chances to get ahead if you are in ur manager's in-group.
Cons
There is a bias towards Israelis
Advice to Senior Management
It'll be great to see Amdocs as culturally cosmopolitan..
There are right now ppl from many countries, but many non Israelis still feel uncomfortable with the company culture & opportunities
