    Poor

    IT Project Manager (Former Employee)
    Birmingham, AL

ProsGood medical benefits, dental and vision acceptable. Does offer 401k. No retirement.

ConsOffshores work to India as quickly as possible. Primarily is an outsourcing company for larger companies such as AT&T. These companies outsource the work and employees which disguises any downsizing on their part. Then Amdocs lays them off as quickly as possible and replaces them with Indian offshore employees.

Good place to work but not for growth

Programming Senior Subject Matter Expert (Former Employee)
    Dallas, TX

ProsGood culture, Amdocs is topmost player in its domain. Workplace is very competitive and good people around.

ConsYou can not grow much here specially if you are not Jewish, there is big favor for Jewish folks even if they are not as good as other people. They get promoted quickly and most of the managers are Jewish.

Amdocs concentrates only on telecom domain, so there are very few options outside Amdocs, some of the products and technology are only used in Amdocs so if you are stuck in those projects it will be very difficult to move out.

Very long work hours and you would be give work in out of proportion.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet some diversity in upper management. Some linguistic/accent training for managers from Israel, its very hard at time to understand what they say :) in important meetings.

Prosthings are done efficiently., collaborative atmosphere, nice place to responsibilities and ownership. Some of the people around are very smart.

Constoo many managers, concerns are usually not addressed. meritorious and average performers are weighed same because work is average.

Advice to Senior Managementthink of expanding so as to utilize excessive number of managers and leads in the middle management.

This probably isn't the tech job you're looking for.

Senior Subject Matter Expert (Current Employee)
    Champaign, IL

ProsThere is a lot of potential:
    - Amazing, sharp, clever people as far as the eye can see
    - There's a lot of very interesting work which needs to be done
    - Champaign is a great town to live and work in
    - Health benefits are great
    - Pay is on the lower end of competitive for the market overall, though mid-range of competitive for the area
    - There are a handful of groups doing some neat things
    - The customers of Amdocs are some of the best in the world to work with
    - Bonuses are great, or so I'm told

ConsAmdocs is suffering from chronic mismanagement, and abuse of workers is rampant.
    - On-call schedules result in very frequent long (more than 50 hours) work weeks
    - Resistance to change is excessive and arbitrary, and nepotism abounds
    - Ratio of managers to workers is almost 1:2 (and actually is in some areas).
    - Applications in use are ancient and aging, corporate doesn't want to spend the money to fix the problem, so instead they hire people to perform data fixes 24/7 instead of actually fixing the bugs.
    - People in management reserve the right to demand your presence on a "bridge" at any hour of the day, regardless of your plans.
    - Those who are hired as programmers are often only used in a tier-3 support capacity.
    - All of the above problems lead to a stagnation in personal growth and skill-atrophy.
    - Management doesn't want to hear what you think or want, they only want you to do as you're told and pick up the phone when you are called.
    - Management always hearkens back to when things were much, much worse whenever a problem arises, and then uses that as a pretext to avoid solving the problem.
    - The company chases people away in droves and then chooses not to back-fill those positions. This makes fewer people do the same amount of work.
    - The company uses the word "professional" to mean "do what I say without question," and they do so repeatedly at all levels of management.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour workers do not belong to you, and the more you remind people that they can leave and go work somewhere else if they don't like where they are the more likely they are to actually do so.

Senior management may also want to stop extolling the virtues of hard work while bragging about the perks of their jobs, too.

Good Technical Exposure but bad work environment

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsVery good technical exposure as most of the current employees in Champaign are very highly experienced. It's a great learning.

ConsBad work environment because of work culture and mostly Desi (Indian) culture
