Had a satisfactory 4 and half year stint at Qpass/Amdocs

Senior Systems Engineer (Former Employee)
Seattle, WA

I worked at Amdocs Qpass full-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Nice people
- Good internal opportunities
- Cultural diversity
- Work life balance is decent, although could be improved further.
- Good benefits

Cons- Innovation is not one of the strong points.
- Time taken for executing ideas is very long, which can be counter productive in times of cloud services and anywhere access.

Advice to Senior Management- In solving engineering problems, management should try to look for solutions other than putting increased resources behind problems.

Average to Good

SSME (Current Employee)
Seattle, WA

I have been working at Amdocs Qpass full-time for more than 8 years

ProsFlexible schedule, ownership, view, breakfast

ConsWorking with Indians and Israelis at once can be tricky. Most of the folks lack any professionalism and civility. A lot of slackers. There are more people than work and people create non nonsensical work to fill time and justify position. Ex. In one team, there are 1 VP, 1 Director, 3 Managers, 4 leads, 1 developer, and 4 testers.

Advice to Senior ManagementSee who is actually getting the work done. Usually it's the one at the bottom. If you don't take care of the person doing the actual job within the timelines, you will never be able to retain good talent.

Tough political environment to work in

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Seattle, WA

I worked at Amdocs Qpass full-time for more than 8 years

ProsEngineering was a reasonably sane environment running Agile (Scrum); some engineering teams better than others. Most groups outside of Engineering were subject to chaos. Some interesting technical work and experience supporting products serving large mobile providers, with the cash cow being a single large mobile provider. Decent overal salary and benefits package, particularly with longer tenure.

ConsCulturally difficult environment to work in. Many times, treat employees like cogs on a wheel and drive them into the ground with a lot of hours. Being an Israeli-based company, after acquisition of Qpass, a large amount of Israeli-expats were shipped to Seattle to do things in the "Amdocs way". This killed a lot of the Seattle tech culture that remained form the startup days of Qpass, and was replaced by a massive amounts of politics, short-sighted vision, and a buddy-buddy Israeli decision making group. Company leaned too far solely supporting select large mobile providers for first generation digital content, with really the bulk of revenue coming from a single provider. Lacked strategic vision/investment to be ahead of the curve and diversify their customer base in the digital commerce space.

Advice to Senior ManagementDecide if you want to be a leader in the mobile space. If so, find the right visionaries with market competency, invest appropriately, and rally the troops.
