Pros
Financially stable company.
Good support as far as technology, corporate office support and training.
Depending upon your location the staff can be wonderful. My location had an awesome staff.
Salary was fair for the industry in my area.
Great vacation at 3 weeks your first year.
Company car option.
They have an excellent community service culture.
They are nationwide.
Cons
Very little if any bonuses or commissions. If you receive one it is a rarity.
Mid Management does little to help and it is easier to work around them.
The new sales reporting software is in development and is bogging down the salesforce right now.
You compete with other branches.
There are to many layers of managment.
High turnover of staff in many locations (not all locations)
Paperwork is sometimes repetitive and overlapping.
Advice to Senior Management
Give more power to the offices and eliminate mid-management. AVP's not necessary and do little to create growth.
Pros
Good professional support via phone or internet.
Cons
Our offices were closed at the end of the year as cutbacks were made. Did not really affect me as a PRN employee, however, they made errors processing my final paycheck (from November) it is now Jan 9 and I still have not been paid despite numerous communications saying it is in process. Now I will (hopefully) receive that pay in 2012, making just one more tax nightmare for me.....
This company seems to make a lot of upfront/interview promises that I cannot say were going to be fulfilled. Again, as PRN, I was not worried about my position, however, much information was omitted in the interview process, such as the long long training process, especially for a seasoned therapist. Another example is the 'training' where you go with another therapist. I was not told about these ride alongs upfront, and then when it did come it I was told I would be spending 3 days away to complete this. As a mother and primary caregiver, that was difficult, as a PRN therapist, I felt it to be excessive. As a therapist with experience, I thought I had asked all the right questions, but if you don't ask it, they won't offer it.
Amedisys 'almost' has it with electronic paperwork and will issue you a laptop. The programs are incredibly cumbersome to use from the sign in to the clinical notes to timeslips to travel log. I cannot say enough how much therapy time is wasted navigating the electronic system - when it works- I could have been much much more efficient with a stone tablet and piece of flint.
Our office staff was inexperienced and 'catty'. Gladly I did not have to spend time in the office. I felt a little extra supervision would have gone a long way with these youngsters.
I will be moving to a new area soon, and will not be looking to rehire with Amedisys. I will take my chances with the other guy.
Advice to Senior Management
Do some time studies with your epaperwork, you'll find you are severly lacking in efficiency.
Pros
Great pay, excellent training. Flexible work schedule. Never alone help is only a phone call or e-mail away. Potential for professional growth
Cons
Pay per visit is nice but it causes greed example is the RN's can control a LPN's paycheck and managers don't want to be bothered with this
Managers are allowed to speak to employees in a less than respectfull manner
When problems are brought to management they turn the other way as long as the visits are covered
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees. Handle a problem in a professional manner, not a personal one. Care center should act as a unit not 3 seperate entities. Because someone has worked here for a long time does not make them a good employee. Hold people accountable and make them treat everyone with dignity and respect.
Pros
Excellent physical therapists and field nurses - the best in the city!
Fair compensation and benefits - including paid vacation time.
Cons
The most unprofessional, unorganized and unethical office I have ever worked in. I really do not know how they are keeping the doors open.
Horrible management - nepotism, favoritism, cliques and the AVP of Ops is afraid of the DOO.
In fact, everyone is afraid of the DOO.
Watch your back if you are not part of the clique. You will be thrown under the bus and then they will back over you again and again.
Questionable medicare billing practices - not sure who's really signing the medicare forms........
Advice to Senior Management
I have not met Bill Borne, but I hear that he is a wonderful and inspiring leader.
I would like to think that he does not know how the local offices are being run.
Pros
Excellent paid time off.......3 weeks a year for 1st-5th years!
D.O.O in our office is AWESOME. Actually cares about her staff
Cons
Upper management, doesn't care about field staff, they just want their numbers!
Documentation is redundant! Some of it has to do with Medicare but most of it is Amedisys.
Hours spent driving to and from patients without getting paid for it!
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management<La> should make it a MAJOR priority to VISIT all of their Care Centers at least 1 time a year! And talk to the field staff.
Stop hiring all of these UPPER management people and increase your staffs wages. We are one of the lowest paying agencies in Florida.
Pros
Management supportive of clinicians and support our decision making skills. Do not "push you around" and do not make you do anything you are not comfortable doing. Concerned with our safety out in the field. I have always felt comfortable talking to management about any concerns.
Cons
The paperwork is horrendous but this is largely due to medicare requirements. I sometimes wonder if the documentation program could be made more efficient. Lots of check boxes and text boxes to fill out.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to show care and concern for employeees. I am concerned about the office staff. They seem bogged down with paperwork (as we all are). The bottom line is quality care and coordination of care between both office staff and field staff. Without this, and a good team, any well meaning care center will struggle to keep it's employees. Upper management needs to listen, especially when good employees who have been with the company for years start to want to find a different job.
Pros
insurance starteed on first day of employment
Cons
RUN don't walk from this company! It excels at hiring the most inexperienced, incompetent management possible: Favoritism and cliques abound. STAY FAR AWAY FROM AMEDISYS.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire competent experienced seasoned directors. At least some one with a brain.
Pros
Benefits package is OK.
Hours are OK
Cons
Disrespect from BOM toward employees that are not in the clique
Low pay
Management tells each person what they think they want to hear instead of telling the truth
Advice to Senior Management
Be a manager instead of trying to be friends with everybody.
Fire your BOM and get a new one and maybe employees will stay
Pros
Flexible scheduling
Alot of learning opportunities
When your care center succeeds, you are awarded incentives.
Mgmt helps with field visits/and on-call, when this is not a common practice in other offices.
Cons
Staff are not committed to their daily duties, expectations- If you give an inch, they want a mile, .
Mgmt not appreciated for what they do for staff over and beyond.
No loyalty of staff-they want a paycheck but dont want to accept resp. for whats expected of them
Employees want change but wont comment to promote new ideas.
Changes occur often and sometimes w/o notification.
Long hours and very little appreciation or feedback
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees. Keep open door at all times. Allow your staff to vent and grow from others experiences. If employees wont share their concerns and feelings, there's nothing mgmt can do to fix the issue.
Pros
Benefits, E-learning, Patient care, great therapist to work with that also care about the patients and their goals being met. Computer charting.
Cons
pay by visit & not hour, increase patient load one week, then decrease next week, no team work or good communication between nursing staff. Traveling 200-300 miles a day helping cover another office down on staff and not being paid for all the mileage despite putting it computer on inteniary. When you ask about information nobody knows you are told call corporate. Taking away PTO time when quotas not met this should be our decision if we wish to use.
Advice to Senior Management
I believe it would be good ideal DOO's & CM should go out in the field at least twice a month with full case load & 200miles or more if they are therapist or nurses to remind them of what the field staff endure. I believe staff should be paid hourly, with guaranteed 40hrs a week, in case census is down, so staff does not have to worry about if they will meet quotas or not.If a field staff is sent to a specific area to see only one patient because the patient declines the one who covers the areas then that person should be given more than the one to make it cost effective especially if you have to travel over 25 miles to see the one patient. I believe all staff should be treated equal with no regards to RN, LPN, OT, PT, PTA, ST, etc. Field staff should be given report of patients they are going to be seeing so they dont go in blindy. Weekend staff should leave reports of what was going on with patients, and the weekend worker should have report before going out to make visits.
