    I have been working at Ameren full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    -Outstanding benefits and salary package
    -New fitness center on-site--membership fees are negligible
    -Decent cafeteria
    -Flexible work hours (can start anywhere between 6am and 9am)
    -Very friendly people and a great working environment
    -Committed to diversity
    -Lots of opportunity within the company
    -Very good work/life balance

    Cons

    -Like any big company, change can be slow and can be resisted, but leadership is making a huge effort to change the "this is the way we've always done it" mentality
    -The software programs the company uses are extremely archaic and disorganized, which is frustrating and hurts productivity. They really need to modernize the way they do things (i.e., having digital files instead of paper files), but I think they're working on it.

    I worked at Ameren as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    Very friendly people
    Lax work schedule
    Awesome work/life balance
    No issues concerning the possibliity of getting laid off (hence 'utility company')

    Cons

    Too Lax of work schedule at times
    Not as upbeat to suit a young worker (of course, depending on your personality)
    The Midwest isn't the most exciting region of the U.S

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be open minded as possible of other's concerns and suggestions. This way, everyone feels respected and driven to utilize their pride on the job…but of course that's with every company.

    I have been working at Ameren full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Ameren is a great place to work, not only for the very competitive salary and benefits, but because it is full of enjoyable personalities to work with. In my first year at Ameren I haven't found a single unpleasant person.

    Cons

    I think the only real con of Ameren is that it is very deeply seeded in Seniority. It doesn't feel like I will be abe to move up as fast as I would like based on just merit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The company structure is very hierarchical, and I feel like a more flat structure would allow ambitious, and skilled employees to climb ranks faster, and provide their immense value more effectively.

    Pros

    Salary is good, benefits are even better (for now). Somewhat care about what you think and will allow you to make the job better for everyone involved. Rebuilding their system to meet future demands.

    Cons

    If you are good at your job, and would like to transfer to another department, you can forget it. They use whatever they can to keep you where you are. Changes the pay scale of jobs without reflecting those changes with current employees. This is only done with new hires.

    Be a true leader. No more do as I say and not as I do.

    Great pay and benefits for the area. Co-op/interns are given a lot of freedom

    Cons

    Co-op/interns aren't always kept busy, I find myself constantly asking for more work. Some of the work is very tedious and boring.

    Pros

    Stable work atmosphere, people are nice, you are treated with respect. If you do your work, you will not have any problems due to Union environment .

    Cons

    Union environment, merit based raises are mostly non-existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat union employees like they are responsible adults. 2-15 min breaks and a 30 minute lunch. You can not combine these. It's kind of ridiculous. Depending on the department the work can be monotonous.
