    I worked at AmeriGas as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

    Good experience, my 1st job out of college. Got SAP experience and learned a lot about the company and business in general specifically pertaining to Lockbox (Accounts Receivable dept). Office culture at smaller office is good.Great people. Have a history of laying off people. Layed off the whole credit and collections dept right before my temp period was up. Good leadership.

    Cons

    Some people who came there before me were temps for as long as two years before they became permanent in June of 2014.

    "Right size" company allows access to c-level execs while also providing job security of being #1 player with largest resources in the industry
    Transparency through town hall meetings with CEO
    Family-friendly - 8 to 4pm schedule

    Hard to find new areas of growth in industry that is shrinking 2-3%/yr
    Often considered the highest price provider w/o emphasizing additional value to customer

    How can we find additional ways to incentivize front line customer facing workers with carrots rather than sticks?
    How can we continue to increase the "value pie" in the industry vs. focusing on capturing a larger piece of the same sized pie?

    There Are Plenty Of Opportunities To Work Your Way Up The ladder, But Eventually YOU Get To A Dead zone.

    Cons

    Some times it seems management will tell you what you want to hear, but never follow through. I have interviewed for different positions and was given bogus reasons why I did not get the job. I think too many friends of management get hired.

    I worked at AmeriGas full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    An adventurous way to spend the winter months! If you have a CDL B license and HazMat, they'll provide training and ride-alongs to get you up to speed. Then you're on your own filing residential and commercial tanks and doing leak checks. The overtime hours, depending on the route, can be substantial and add a tidy sum to the paycheck. They can also be very physically draining. The trucks vary from old operable relics to nice new ones. As a new driver, you can guess which one you'll start with. Management is fair in dealing with employees, they provide the basic equipment (gloves, coveralls, safety glasses) and overall camaraderie is good.

    Cons

    An accident or property damage of any sort, regardless of whose fault it is or how trivial it may seem, will most likely land you in hot water. Being on call 24/7 for a week at a time goes with the territory. Delivering motor fuel and ACE cylinders is physically exhausting and may lead to repetitive motion injuries. Truck and pump noise may lead to hearing loss.

    Realize that drivers are busting their tails to get the job done in extreme and often dangerous conditions and environments. Be more responsive when they're in a fix and need help.
