I have been working at America's Small Business Development Center part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

SBDCs are often (maybe always? I'm not sure) affiliated in some way with universities in their region. This provides students who are fortunate enough to get their foot in the door the opportunity to get both quality and quantity of real-world consulting experience that is incredibly difficult for students to obtain elsewhere. Other pros: my supervisors are wonderful, they allow me to be flexible in my hours and occasionally work remotely. Regional Director really goes to bat bringing in only projects that will be valuable learning experiences, and Associate Director is an excellent support system as well.

    Cons

Even my boss acknowledges that the students in my position bring more worth to the company than they are able to pay, and doesn't seem to be much opportunity for post-university employment with the SBDC itself as it's a very small office with mostly part-time consultants. I don't REALLY consider these things major cons, but since you asked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep on allowing regional offices to make decisions regarding hiring and everyday workings of their areas! Seems to work well.

I have been working at America's Small Business Development Center

    Pros

You get good hands on experience while making a wage. Most other internships are unpaid that I have seen. Its good to be able to help people and see them succeed.

    Cons

The pay is nowhere as good as a major company, however its better than nothing.
The work can be somewhat redundant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think that many people don't know about the services that the SBDC provides. A little advertising can go along way.
