Pros
The flight benefits are great, there are many opportunities for advancement, unlimited training and learning opportunites with respect to aircraft maintenance and safety.
Cons
In 2003 all union employees sacrificed wages, vacation, holidays, sick time, etc........ in and effort to keep the company out of bankrupcy. In return our executives have continued to accept millions of dollars in bonuses year after year. All of our labor groups are currently in negotiations and American is unwilling to even come close to matching the terms of our 2001 contract (Nine Years Later). They are seeking further concessions from our labor groups as a "Thank You" for our efforts. For the most part employees are very disgusted to say the least.
Advice to Senior Management
Show some appreciation to the employees that saved the airline from bankrupcy. Stop blaming high labor costs for our continued losses year after year.
Pros
Great benefits .but some of the managers are just crazy.
Cons
Lousy immature manager but the place is a great place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Check your managers.
Pros
Travel benes. Health insurance benes. Life insurance benes. Co-workers from different backgrounds. Maybe some scheduling flexibility depending on the city where you work.
Cons
Seniority is everything and performance doesn't matter much. Your weekends and holidays will be spent working for a long time.
Advice to Senior Management
Reinvent yourself from the top down. Upset employees will not take care of the customer. All airlines deal with seniority issues, but other airlines perform better and do better moneywise too. Take the first step and truly begin to care about the employees. Otherwise things will never change.
Pros
American Airlines has a good retirement program.
Cons
What once was an amazing place to work has now become a hostile environment. Management has no respect for their employees which in turn trickles down to how employees treat customers. Employee morale is extremely low. Basically, you have the trickle down effect from management. When employees are treated with hostility, the employees, in return, treat customers the same way. There needs to be a revamping of management all the way to the top. This airline will die if it continues on the road it has been on for the past several years.
Advice to Senior Management
When employee appreciation and respect begins from management, you will see employee morale and customer service improve and ultimately, a greater airline evolve. Until then, this airline will continue to digress.
Pros
Travel Benefits. Ability to transfer to any city American Eagle Airlines has operations. The easy system for picking up overtime
Cons
The company doesn't spend much money on it's employees. Every x-mas we would get from management either a card, nestle chocolate bar, or a bag of cheap mints.
Advice to Senior Management
Better pay. What's the point of having free airline tickets if you don't make enough money to go anywhere.
Pros
Travel
Easy job if you are in HQ
Great work/life balance. They can't afford laptops so you really don't bring work home with you.
Cons
Not very professional managers. Very low skill level with zero leadership training.
Middle management doesn't do much to develop employees.
Managers are simply Sr Analysts with bigger cubes.
Most nepotistic place I've worked. If you have a good degree or MBA, go somewhere to really learn about business.
Advice to Senior Management
Good gosh, flatten that organization out. I know that you want to create 30 layers to give people a chance to have a career. At some point, the effectiveness of the organization is compromised due to bad middle management. NOTE: A good analyst does not make a good manager.
Pros
It's a paycheck. It's not like a real job in alot of ways. Flexible work schedules.
Cons
The job is very physical with alot of on the job injuries. The pay is not enough for the physical tool it takes on a person body or self esteem. The management really does not weed out employees that can't or more often do his or her job. There needs to be more accountabiity on all levels within the company.
Advice to Senior Management
The company got to get out of the notion that keep losing money each quarter is normal. They need to make good business decisions even if it's means laying off employees at all levels.
Pros
If you are good at what you do you are pretty much guaranteed to keep your current job
If you aren't good at what you do, management will pawn you off on another department
If you have an MBA - you got it made
Get to travel to places you may not get to - because of the work you do
Cons
Usually the ones who don't deserve it, get promoted
Performance reviews are not consistent - when and if they are given
No career path opportunities
There's a lot of "talk" about diversity - but when it comes to it....middle management does not act on it
Those in the "click" get promoted
If co-workers aren't good at their job, managment will pawn them off on someone else
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees - take a day and "live" in your their positions
If someone reports their manager or Managing Director for wrong-doing, really take the time to look into the compaint personally, don't just tell the department to "take care of it and make it go away". You'd be surprised at the things you'll uncover.
Not all complaints are from disgruntled employees, many of us do care about the company, but when those doing wrong are protected it's difficult to have faith in upper management
Pros
great flight benefits, flexible working hours, some good supervisors, great co-workers, having medical & dental. good salary.
Cons
bad management practices. salary not keeping up with the cost of living.
Advice to Senior Management
dont expect your employees to give back benefits when you hav not done so. be balanced and fair. share the gain not the pain(employees only). if you show that you are commited to us, then we will give it back to you. stop taking all those bonuses! we gave up a lot and you kept all & then some. thnx for that! 2nd quarter no profit? i dont think so. i appreciate you giving back to the company; new equipment, new planes, new airports. give us something also, because we deserve a fair compensation.
Pros
Travel, Of course. AA flies to some of the best cities in the world. But you have to have a flexible schedule to take advantage of it, otherwise you are better off buying a ticket. Good co-workers.
Cons
Pay is lower than other industries, stock trading really low. Seniority is everything when it comes to when you work, so expect to work undesirable shifts when yo first start.
Advice to Senior Management
Really recognize outstanding service, not just a pat on the back. Put a little more money in employees pockets to retain them.
