Pros
Of course the flight benefits, exciting industry, strong revenue management, open door policy, nice longevity benefits, pretty good about personal time,
Cons
As with most big business, things are slow as molasses to make it to production. However, things are getting better and should continue to go that way.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work. Keep up the good work. Keep up the good work. Keep up the good work.
Pros
Great Benefits, work life balance
Cons
limited growth, no effort to retain, low pay
Advice to Senior Management
Increase management salaries
Pros
Benefits package was far better than what I've experienced elsewhere
Co-workers/colleagues are great
Great flexibility with work schedule
Cons
Salary not quite comparable to other industries - understandable, but...
Profit sharing goals rarely met due to thin margins (even in good times)
Union-management relationships contentious
Advice to Senior Management
In general, management did great...some opportunities to improve relations with unions, for the good of the company, oft ignored, overlooked, or just avoided.
Pros
Pension plan retirement. Flight benefits
Cons
Expensive health care cost poor vision program. Product being sold much cheaper than its value. Employees treated as a cost structure instead of as a human being .
Advice to Senior Management
Senior members of management have lost over 500 million dollars this year due to some migating circumstances ie fuel cost, down economy and poor route decision making. . But are still receiving performance bonuses in excess 4 million dollars for the CEO. While rank and file employees have not received a incremental cost increase in over 3 years. I think to show good face senior management should hold at their base salaries until all can move forward together. Work together Win together.
Pros
Great benefits .but some of the managers are just crazy.
Cons
Lousy immature manager but the place is a great place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Check your managers.
Pros
American Airlines has a good retirement program.
Cons
What once was an amazing place to work has now become a hostile environment. Management has no respect for their employees which in turn trickles down to how employees treat customers. Employee morale is extremely low. Basically, you have the trickle down effect from management. When employees are treated with hostility, the employees, in return, treat customers the same way. There needs to be a revamping of management all the way to the top. This airline will die if it continues on the road it has been on for the past several years.
Advice to Senior Management
When employee appreciation and respect begins from management, you will see employee morale and customer service improve and ultimately, a greater airline evolve. Until then, this airline will continue to digress.
Pros
Travel
Easy job if you are in HQ
Great work/life balance. They can't afford laptops so you really don't bring work home with you.
Cons
Not very professional managers. Very low skill level with zero leadership training.
Middle management doesn't do much to develop employees.
Managers are simply Sr Analysts with bigger cubes.
Most nepotistic place I've worked. If you have a good degree or MBA, go somewhere to really learn about business.
Advice to Senior Management
Good gosh, flatten that organization out. I know that you want to create 30 layers to give people a chance to have a career. At some point, the effectiveness of the organization is compromised due to bad middle management. NOTE: A good analyst does not make a good manager.
Pros
It's a paycheck. It's not like a real job in alot of ways. Flexible work schedules.
Cons
The job is very physical with alot of on the job injuries. The pay is not enough for the physical tool it takes on a person body or self esteem. The management really does not weed out employees that can't or more often do his or her job. There needs to be more accountabiity on all levels within the company.
Advice to Senior Management
The company got to get out of the notion that keep losing money each quarter is normal. They need to make good business decisions even if it's means laying off employees at all levels.
Pros
great flight benefits, flexible working hours, some good supervisors, great co-workers, having medical & dental. good salary.
Cons
bad management practices. salary not keeping up with the cost of living.
Advice to Senior Management
dont expect your employees to give back benefits when you hav not done so. be balanced and fair. share the gain not the pain(employees only). if you show that you are commited to us, then we will give it back to you. stop taking all those bonuses! we gave up a lot and you kept all & then some. thnx for that! 2nd quarter no profit? i dont think so. i appreciate you giving back to the company; new equipment, new planes, new airports. give us something also, because we deserve a fair compensation.
Pros
The Flight Benefits Are great, although no longer free. It is still extremely cheap, and usually pretty easy to get on a standby flight.
Cons
Terrible pay compared to market. Archaic processes and lack of desire to innovate is hampering the company. Losing money every quarter, with no real end in sight. Lagging behind competitors in customer satisfaction, completion stats, etc...
Advice to Senior Management
Stop banking on the free flights to get talent. Anyone worth their salt will work somewhere where they can afford to just buy a flight and live comfortably.
