    I worked at American Airlines

    Pros

The perks to the employment kept me there for over fifteen years. The ability to enjoy them made it easier to stay.

    Cons

The lack of management employee interaction, when changes occurred. The general public more informed than employees and companies failure to explain why?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate more, extent yourselves for positive feed back, so glad their is a union now! Sorry I was not there to see it.

I have been working at American Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great brand name, and customer loyalty, good benifits. The company has a long proud history of safety, and service. The last ten years has seen many changes in both federal regulations, and leadership. The workforce has been neglected, but our new management team seems to be trying to make things right.

    Cons

Just coming out of Bankruptcy/Merger with US Air, and still trying to get all of the work groups together.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't know how best to do it, but you just need to restore trust. Your making progress in my opinion. But it takes time.

    Pros

Great travel benefits, company training and 401k

    Cons

Travel constantly, no real "pats on the back" for doing a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to employees and show you are truly interested in their concerns.

Former Employee - Advantage Customer Service in DFW, TX

I worked at American Airlines full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The only pro I could think of was non-revenue travel benefits.

    Cons

If you were hired in the AAdvantage department, it is near impossible to get out of the department, This lead to supervisors not promoting growth to the employees but rather trying to chain them down to no advancement. The AAdvantage department worked with American Airlines loyalty program which none of the databases from reservations, Citi, or AAdvantage were synced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be more time given inbetween phone calls in an inbound call center, so employees do not get "burned out."

I worked at American Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flight privileges (even though flights are increasingly likely go out full of revenue passengers); Looks good on your resume; Managers do not put in long hours, comparatively speaking.

    Cons

Whatever is the most cutting-edge company in the U.S., AA is at the opposite end of the spectrum; Pay for most middle management positions is below market; The only source of company growth is M&A, meaning opportunities for advancement will be few.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Diversify out of commercial air travel into other, more profitable lines of business.

    Pros

A top notch airline, flies all over the world, proud to be an employee of an industry leader.

    Cons

Lower and middle management could be petty and foolish. You just have to deal with it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to see the big picture. Do not get hung up on small, insignificant matters.
