I have been working at American Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flights are so full these days it is very difficult for employees to get a seat

    Cons

Working with the public is always a challenge. Unfortunately in all customer service work environments customers often have zero common courtesy. Heck, people in general forget what their mothers taught them at a young age! I strive to not join that group! Lol. But true.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to look at people with compassion during interviews and remember how nervous they are. People who "ace" interviews can end up being bad employees who know how to work it. The people who will do the best job and often want it the most can't always come across polished because they really care. Sounds weird but I've seen it time and time again.

    American Airlines: Toxic Corporate Culture

Current Employee - Captain, Major Airline in San Francisco, CA
Current Employee - Captain, Major Airline in San Francisco, CA

I have been working at American Airlines

    Pros

The ONLY reason to stay, is that this is a seniority based career (Pilot). If you join another company, you lose all seniority, and literally start at the very bottom. Even with that, there are a growing number of AA pilots leaving for other opportunities, something absolutely unthinkable in the past...

    Cons

Toxic management practices. Complete disrespect for employees. Management taking millions of dollars in 'performance" bonuses, while the company is losing money, the stock is falling, and the line employees are enduring massive paycuts. I'm making less than I was as a copilot fifteen years ago. Management thinks drastically cutting maintenance & training costs are a good thing to do. Do you?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees as you would like to be treated...
