Company Culture is cool in that it is unique but it is often over sexual

    Pros

Young work environment. If you are young and want a basic entry level job where you get a discount on the clothing then this is the job for you.

    Cons

Late hours into the night, for a retail job. Does not feel like anyone was a boss or knew what they were doing. They have a very fast turn around rate for employees everyone was quitting and new people were hired fast.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Limit the amount of hours for retail employees.

    Pros

The company is based in America and the clothes are made on U.S.A. soil, sweatshop free.

    Cons

The high up management is not the best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust the workers in the stores they would know best, because they are there everyday and the staff at a store should be like family, and then the sales will go up. Let people that work there fall in love with there positions and grow into high up positions. Hire older people that understand high end fashion, to sale this some what expensive merchandise to the public.

I worked at American Apparel part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There is an amazing discount: 50% off on clothes, 30% off on accessories.

    Cons

Basically... the hiring process is terrible because its based on looks and how well you wear the clothes. And the manager I used to work under was fired for being caught stealing clothes and money from the cash drawer. The corporate rep that would come in to check on our store was also a crazed looking lady who had open gashes and scars all up and down her arms, she also talked inappropriately to customers about her pains and treated the rest of us on the staff like we were inferior, just because we weren't corporate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to be more professional. PERIOD. Cool clothes and a sexual reputation do little when there are such terrible people haunting a store.
