    Pros

    Great employees to work with.

    Cons

    Management without technical knowledge competency.

    Advice to Management

Double standard policy with engineers will not work.

    Pros

Great co-workers. Good fishing. Very high cost of living. Have to travel one hour for anything - medical, movies, shopping. Very poor school.

    Cons

Management is very young without any experience. Good old boy system. Zero chance of promotion. Low pay with a lot stress and over scheduled. Work excessive hours without any appreciation. Lots of meaningless meetings from management that put you even further behind. Very poor software that is outdated DOS based and out dated. Software takes at least a year to begin to learn and a couple years to become proficient. Software is a dead language and is no longer supported by IT department. All the programmers have left or retired. Very high turn over rate. 6 experienced engineers have left this year alone. Three of the engineers were senior professional engineers. Professional Engineers are expected to rubber seal other engineer designs without any time to review design. Very unethical. Get all the money you can when starting because you will not get another raise.

    Advice to Management

Hire older experienced management, at least over the age of 30. Don't hire the good old boys who are your buddies for supervisors. Use modern window based software such as MBS. Pay better wages to professional engineers and cut back the hours to at most 55 hours a week. Spread the work out to all engineers equally. Don't have have your teacher pets that don't do any design. Cut the meetings back to at most 4 hours a week. Reduce red tape. You only need about a 1/8th of the red tape paper work to efficiently run the jobs thru production. Hire PE'S with experience and pay them fairly. Make the supervisors actually design jobs so they can see how much red tape there is and know how to accurately schedule jobs. Treat your employees as you would want to be treated....fairly and with respect.

    Pros

Great if you don't have experience under your belt. In slow days you do whatever you want. Get some experience and get out! A lot of time to study for FE and possibly PE. After you figure out the design software and keep getting lower complexity jobs it's pretty easy. Gives you time to study. If you are willing to move there's a lot of opportunity.

    Cons

No proper training! In house software is useless once you leave. A lot of drama. If you are not one of the favorites forget it! You will be stuck trying to figure out purchase orders, company standards and design software. If you are not a favorite you'll be stuck designing the easy projects and will not grow.

    Advice to Management

    Promote better people!

    Pros

Owned by Nucor which is a very solid company.

    Cons

Only one profitable division of four. Western Division is poorly run with great internal issues.

    Advice to Management

Create a better team environment, let go people who are hurting the division and figure out a way to decrease the process. Think outside the box.

    Pros

It has good benefits, they treat their employees decent. We still have holiday parties, cookouts, etc..Not too many companies left like that. They are all about their employees. They promote moving within.

    Cons

Although vacation time is decent, there is only 1 personal day a year. Company has great vision, but sometimes the vision strays. As with everything else... life is busy, and sometimes things just need a reminder

    Pros

They have a very strong parent company in Nucor. Good media info & estimating programs. Mostly knowledgeable staff & internal support.

    Cons

As an outside builder, didn't receive the best communication at all times from the main offices. Seemed to be a lot of turnover in sales groups.

    Pros

The company is owned by Nucor. They claim to follow a " No lay-off" practice, .... though, don't know how long it would stay true. Also Medical Insurance plan is decent.

    Cons

Dishonest management, exploitation of employees, virtually no respect, appreciation, recognition or growth with low salaries and high level of stress. It is as if the management is encouraging the employees to leave.

    Advice to Management

Management should learn to actually "take care of internal customers" and ensure that is run like a Nucor Company.
