Cons

Low oppotunity for promotion comparing with US employee
Unfair for working evalucation
Advice to Senior Management
More US management team, NO Singaporeness, No Hong Kongness
Change current COO as soon as possible for future of ABS
Pros
ABS provides good job security and good benefits. It is well known for its cross-cultural working environment.
Cons
Salary is so not competitive compared to similar jobs in the industry. As an engineer doing regular duties, there are not many good opportunities to advance in career and also depends on individual's direct supervisor. Experience of being a surveyor or expat is necessary if you want to advance in the company, but that kind of opportunity is very hard to get.
Advice to Senior Management
Company needs to promote intellegency and delegency among empolyees; Give rewards to people who do good jobs, not only to those who speak well about themselves. ABS has a lot of of well educated employees doing jobs that do not match their competency, which seems to be a waste of talents. Management should encourage initiatives from employees to finish job faster and better out of the traditional approach.
Pros
solid company, stable, think tank for marine engineering, if you are interesting in travelling or having an expat assignement, this is a great company. Also it is very stable, you down have to worry about being downsized.Shipping industry looks very good for the next 6 years, and ABS is at the forefront .
You will find people from 100 different countries working here.Very user friendly working environment, though traditional ( don't expect a google type) ,
Cons
salaries are not too high, bonuses insignificant ,there is a standard bonus for all employees and no real bonus tied to competency .Salaries compare to the rest of the industry are not that high
Advice to Senior Management
better communication with staff
Pros
The company provides numerous opportunities for advancement with a clear career path. The company is also very supportive in continuing education and industry involvement. One of the best benefits has been the respect shown to individual employees from upper level management. You are even allowed to work whatever hours you want and if you need to take a day off but don't want to use vacation time then you can easily make the hours up later in the week.
Cons
Engineers don't get to travel allot until they move up to management positions.
Advice to Senior Management
I would ask that they increase the number of opportunities the standard engineer has for travel. Especially since the company is so globally diverse.
