I worked at American Campus Communities part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Meeting new people. Lovely office environment. Amount of responsibility

    Cons

You do not get paid enough for all that you do. They should either raise the pay or let the Community Assistant s live there for free

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep business and personal life seperate

I worked at American Campus Communities

    Pros

Very organized company. They purchased the property I worked at and came in with a much more fluid and organized structure with management. They were effective, and raised our sales within the property. They were fun to work with and there was a lot of opportunity to move up within the company.

    Cons

You basically (if bought out by them) have to drop your old style of the way your company was run and learn to adapt to theirs quickly.

    Recommends
    Approves of CEO

I have been working at American Campus Communities full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

If you work hard, you get noticed quickly and move up within the company fast! Great pay and benefits, fun work environment and corporate supports you and are there for you if you need ANYTHING big or small. They care about their employees!

    Cons

Difficult accounting software that seems to crash often and usually during something important like month end. Once you learn the system they have in place your job becomes a lot easier!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep encouraging everyone from the bottom of the totem pole all the way to the top, keep letting us know we are appreciated!

I have been working at American Campus Communities full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity to move up in the company, benefits are decent, and the young office culture can be a pro, but can also definitely be a con depending on the student staff you work with.

    Cons

The students, the parents, and the corporate micromanaging make working for ACC difficult at times. Compensation compared to other student housing companies is extremely poor, especially because ACC claims to be the leader of the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you actually value your employees- show them with dollar signs.

    Pros

Seen CA move through the ropes to become GM

    Cons

I have been working at American Campus Communities

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities to grow in the industry

    Cons

If full time, non-exempt on property levels, you will have to work long hours during the turn season and blackout days for vacation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to support employees and be more understanding of the operations side of things. Corporate and Property level positions should always communicate and be on the same page to best serve everyone.
