I have been working at American Campus Communities part-time for less than a year

    Pros

ACC provides a very employee-friendly work environment. Upper management is easily accessible, and even easier to talk with. Working with residents whom may be your peers, is an experience unlike any other because each day is a new adventure. Pay is based on experience, needless to say the more experience - even mediocre experience - renders a pretty good pay rate. On-site housing available for most employees.

    Cons

For my property; some procedures are tedious, LAMS can be a nuisance. Phone tours sucks, especially when the prospective resident never physically comes to the office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training sessions with members from corporate are very informative and useful, and should happen more frequently.

I worked at American Campus Communities full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Still maintain the culture of a small company and most truly care about the company and its success. Benefits are great, health insurance is a bit costly for a family.

    Cons

Growing a bit faster than they can handle well. Starting to lose some of the individualized approach to different markets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow the GM's to manage their property, listen to their educated opinion about their markets.

    Pros

    - They invest an entire week ~40 hours to training you
    - Teaches you how to be a professional
    - Meet with management regularly for one on ones
    - company values their residents and is willing to give you large budgets for programing if you have a good idea
    - when I worked here there my housing was paid for
    - They feed you well during training and parties
    - Flexible
    - CEO personally visits
    - Fun vibe

    Cons

    - Easy for other workers to get away with slacking.
    - Can't work additional hours when you need more cash.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No matter how great our programs are, most residents would rather have cheaper rent even if it means having less frequent or less elaborate programs.

I worked at American Campus Communities part-time for more than a year

    Pros

working with young and fun coworkers, semi-flexible schedule

    Cons

very little compensation for the work put in, extremely unorganized work environment, little to no respect from management. They claim to value your opinions but shoot down any ideas you may have immediately. The also change the rules of the office every week. So you never know if your doing things correctly.

I worked at American Campus Communities part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good compensation, resume booster, around peers, company seems to be heading in the right direction

    Cons

before being hired, management said student workers would work only 18 hours per week (while I was a full time student, so this was important). Ended up working 25+ with the once a week "on-duty" shift and the extra projects/functions that none of the residents attended. Was only allowed to clock in for 18 hours so didn't get compensated for other hours we were required to work. Had to aggressively police dorms, which caused residents (who were also your peers) to hate your guts. Lots of gossiping among staff members. Assistant manager would make unnecessary work related threats. Seven of nine student workers quit the semester I worked there (myself included) due to poor treatment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would be more honest about job time requirements with job applicants, change compensation structure so employees aren't working without being compensated, quit the threat bs out, and have the onsite patrol guard bust up all the parties and pour alcohol out instead of the student workers.

I worked at American Campus Communities full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I worked in the corporate office and found:
    Friendly people
    Good Benefits
    Beautiful Office
    Down-to-Earth vibe
    Travel opportunities
Friday afternoons off in the summer
I only left so soon for a different opportunity for a different field.

    Cons

Travel required for some positions, to some mildly boring places. Really no other cons to speak of, it was pretty much anything I could have ever asked for in a corporate office position. I loved it!
