I have been working at American College of Surgeons full-time for more than a year
Pros – The financial benefits are great and the work is interesting. Great co-workers who are knowledgeable, creative, and hard working.
Cons – Management (mostly doctors with no management training per se) does not trust employees. Not family friendly. Very rigid, project-based structure.
Advice to Senior Management – Break up the stove pipes and work with people by skill rather than project. Trust us to get the job done even if we are not sitting in our seats for you to see.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at American College of Surgeons
Pros – A pretty cooperative environment, typical nonprofit, underpaid, but not overworked. A place where getting comfortable and staying in one place is common. Depending on where in the organization a person works, this can vary, but overall this is a place where things do actually get done to benefit the organization's members.
Cons – Depending on where a person works, there may not be a lot of room to grow. Staff is usually quite boxed into certain positions with not too many opportunities to move up. People tend to stay for a long time, meaning that management positions are held by people who have been with the organization for a long time and are not going to leave until they retire. Staff member skills and talents may not be fully tapped or brought out due to the narrow focus of the duties for a position.
Advice to Senior Management – Be more flexible about assigning duties, taking into considering a staff member's skills and interests. Create room to grow and develop and provide opportunities for advancement, even if that means changing titles and duties to reflect a person's growth and development.
